Why?

Not everybody chops it or uses thin-ass breading. The only way it's any good is with thick breading, IMO

I have never seen fried okra like that...it looks like it still has the inedible stem cap on it, hidden under the breading!  This is fried okra in Carolina and most everywhere in the south:

It's chopped and entirely delicious, but nonetheless a side (i.e., optional).  Hushpuppies are NOT optional with a Carolina BBQ plate, nor is slaw.  So yes, I'm sure those are hushpuppies.  And yes, you should facepalm yourself!...and then come down to Burlington so I can buy you a pig plate at Hursey's.

This was my introduction to Carolina BBQ. Prior to it, I had only had KC, Memphis, and Texas.

That is in Virginia. You were introduced to Virginian barbecue.

I'll eat most anything, but I can't call it all barbecue. ;)

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
