Lynch Taken in the Fifth Round by San Francisco

Lynch becomes the 23rd player from USF history to be drafted

TAMPA, May 10, 2014 – Former USF defensive lineman Aaron Lynch was selected in the fifth round, 150th overall, in the 2014 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday.

Lynch, a Cape Coral, Fla. native, became the 23rd USF player to be drafted, the 17th on the defensive side of the ball. He is the second player in USF history to be drafted by the 49ers after quarterback B.J. Daniels was taken in the seventh round in 2013.

“On his tape there is still some explosiveness and juice and he can rush the passer,” said ESPN analyst Todd McShay. “I like this pick.”

Lynch was a first-team American Athletic All-Conference player last season as a sophomore, his only season at USF. He led the Bulls with six sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss, ranking seventh in the American in both categories. Lynch signed with Notre Dame out of Island Coast High School, where he was ranked the sixth-best player nationally, and earned first-team Freshman All-America honors in his only season with the Irish.

Good for him. I was thinking 4/5 round the whole time. He could be special for the Niners if he gets it together mentally and adds some **** weight. I'll be rooting for him.

Thought an organization with 5 Super Bowl titles would have a stricter draft criteria. Clearly, integrity & character are not a priority.

Strength coach Hans Straub doesn't seem to like him.

@CamInman: #49ers 5th roundr Aaron Lynch: "I am first-round talent but I made some mistakes in my past and I figured that’s what hurt me a little bit."

Classy as ever!

That's a pretty unnecessary comment coming from a coach.

^ yeah, it makes the coach look bad. Even if you truly believe that about Lynch, there is no need to broadcast it for the world to see.

Probably should have taken the high road, but it's apparent Lynch left in his wake some reasons to have poor opinion of him.

The shot at the meal plan probably didn't go over too well with coach Hans.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
