Would firing Heath be another classic USF mistake?

In all fairness to Heath Florida is not a basketball state and building a fence around Tampa is really not an issue. West Virginia only has 3 players from their state. Florida St. only has two Florida players. MIami has 4 Florida players and UF is the only team that is 50% Florida players out of the big three. A program that is good can get players from anywhere.

Why not? He's most likely headed to the NCAA Tournament after only 3 years at GA State and successfully transitioned a team from NAIA to NCAA D1.

End of that interview in the second link, the announcer said the bad news is some big program is going to come in and grab him.

Aren't we now spending $1 million+ for the head mbb coach?

We can do much better.  No need to fish in smaller ponds.

You don't think donations are way down? Bring in someone that can win. Period. And if you save money doing it, bonus. Depending on what happens in the Sun Belt and NCAA Tournament, this guy will be at a top program next year, just like what happened to FGCU's coach.

Did you see what he did at IUPUI? 1 good year at Gerogia State doesn't mean big program job.  look what happened at USC this year.

You mean took it to D1 from NAIA, yes. And its beyond one good year. He replaced a fired coach. And so what happened at USC? Look what happened at USF this past year in football. Most don't expect a program turn around year 1.

"Ron Hunter is a proven coach and recruiter who knows what it takes to build a winning program," Georgia State athletic director Cheryl Levick said. "He brings a tremendous amount of energy and passion, and his teams play an aggressive, up-tempo style that is both entertaining and effective. And his efforts off the court and in the community are truly remarkable."

Hunter told ESPN.com's on Sunday that the Colonial Athletic Association's recent strong showing clinched his decision. VCU is in the Sweet 16 and the CAA received three bids to this year's NCAA tournament. George Mason beat Villanova in the second round before losing to Ohio State on Sunday, while Old Dominion lost at the buzzer to Butler in the second round.

I don't know anything else about him, but this part I like.

I don't think we have the option to go back to thinking small. That would end USF Athletics as we 'knew' it.
