This is what comes up when you Google "big 12 expansion ucf" and expect to find anything legit.

Sell-outs of everything. There’s a misconception that it’s all about football. In the Big 12, nothing could be further from the truth. Although football is a big part of the equation, what makes the league’s members truly viable is its commitment to other sports.

The Big 12 cares about baseball, women’s basketball, volleyball, softball, and the other non-revenue sports, because they provide a boost in pocket change for its members. While UCF’s women’s sports have been highly successful of late, men’s basketball, men’s soccer, and (to a lesser extent) baseball have struggled to attract the fan attention – and thus, revenue – of football. Even football itself has had relatively few sell-outs – only nine in 51 games – since Bright House Networks Stadium opened in 2007.

I like this part... although USF doesn't sell out... we do have stronger fan attendance in these other sports... and I also like that this site pointed out that UCF ... with an on-campus stadium that ONLY seats 45 000 ... has sold out 9 out of 51 games in eight seasons... one of them was Texas and another was USF's first game there....

Ah Jim, if only any of that mattered. No one cares about any sport but men's basketball and football. UCF has the facilities to compete in both and while the football stadium might be small for the big 12, an addition can be done in a year. Oh and I don't view a sell out against the only big 12 team to play at UCF as a negative.

If any of this is real and I doubt it is, it's good to at least be in the conversation.

Good news is, if the Big 12 asks you to pay an entrance fee, you've got an extra $10 million laying around.

Gosh, I miss USF being the subject of such unfounded rumors.

I like it better when we're not .... the way it was before the BE invite.

And as I recall, the name UCF was being bandied about heavily right before USF won the spot...

But we offered more back then - no longer.

I'm not so sure.  The football team was better, but all of our facilities have been upgraded significantly since that time.  The people involved are generally intelligent, and they understand the cyclical nature of sports.  Few teams can be good all the time.  If it was all about recent performance on the football field, Syracuse would have never gotten into the ACC.  While UCF has been better the last two years, that could very easily flip.  It's not as if UCF is at the level of FSU.

What has happened to affect us negatively to some degree is that UCF has also upgraded facilities significantly.  While their OCS is a joke compared to most, it is an upgrade over the Citrus Bowl before that was renovated.  That was a miserable place for a game, and a longer distance from campus than RayJay is to USF.  So in comparison of the two schools, they have closed the gap.

They also have more students, but we are far closer to AAU status.  We have a better TV market.

Where we have lost a huge amount of juice is in the lobbying department.  Lee Roy Selmon opened doors that few people can open.  I think we have a small edge there, as Genshaft has become more prominent in the athletic space.  But neither UCF or USF right now have the one guy that can move and shake the way Lee Roy could.  I think that is a much bigger deal than on field performance.

So we agree, we had more to offer then.

They have the edge now.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
