I would kill for someone with that kind of passion for the program right now - it's something that has been sorely lacking of late.

I would like some passion too. Somewhere in between Gruden/Leavitt and Holtz/CWT. Taggart looked like he was dumbstruck for a lot of the game. There has to be middle ground of motivating passion that isn't so fear orientated. Maybe more Pete Carroll like? He never had a losing season at USC, took the Seahawks to the playoffs year one. His Tweets are pretty inspiring and motivational. The Harbaugh brothers are pretty opposite behavior wise too.

it is pretty ridiculous to expect a coach to come in and immediately fix everything. The MSU game was terrible and it really shakes up any confidence the team or fans have in the program. But there are plenty more games this season to think abouot.

We all need to shake off this loss as fans and move on. Back when we had a few close calls with some 1-AA/FCS teams in the past-- the bottom line was got out of there with the W. The fact that we got thumped is concerning but it still is just an L, like it would be had we lost by a point.

I just hope the team really embraces what happened and moves in the right direction

On first read I thought I'd somehow dropped into a coma and missed the Michigan State game.

I am with ya there. CJL had a lot of emotion and his players responded. Of course the other guy on the Rutgars sideline is now coaching the Bucs and he also was very emotional.

Emotion at the right time is a plus. Emotion all game long is just annoying and desensitizing. Used to laugh at CJL for the after-game interviews, he never had any voice left whether we won or lost.

Leavitt had every right to lose it during the Rutgers game. That was one of the all time worst officiating in the history of college football. We got killed when one of the o-lineman went down and that was the beginning of our slide that season.

I seriously hate Rutgers because of that game.

More depth or less injuries and we may have run the table or made a BCS bowl. We were rank 2 all we needed was to win out.

Don't be too bitter over that season, we did plenty to shoot ourselves in the foot back then, too. Don't want to sound like a UCiF fan or anything.

Hang in there, Gismo, we'll get better...I hope...

I guess this is a preference thing. I loved that about him (but then again I also had no voice after most games). I remember him coming over and celebrating with the student section after wins and how much energy he had. I understand that he is gone and why it has to be that way but I'm not sure we fully appreciated at the time how meaningful (and rare) it is to have a head coach that truly loves his school and program with every fiber of his being.

Nobody wanted to win more than him. He is a workhorse and it rubbed off on his players. We gotta stop thinking about the past though. This is new approach that has been successful, we just need tougher guys at every pposition.

At least with Leavitt we were relevant, we were in the conversation. If we got beat under Leavitt like this by McNeese State, they would have talked about it on ESPN. No one even paid any attention to it now.

Early season a few times, yeah. Later in the season, not so much.

Another thing with Leavitt's teams, always at the bottom for most penalized.
