Skip Holtz isn't the reason we lost last night but this is still a team he put together that won 3 games last year and lost substantial talent at multiple positions (QB, CB, K, P)

News flash: it happened. Mcneese looked like the 1-A team today, we looked like the 1-AA.

Uh... that's 100% coaching.

Who exactly do you think McNeese St. is recruiting? They recruit lower tier players. So... if you believe they looked like an FBS team, that would be attributed to coaching. They took FCS caliber players and made them look like an FBS team according to you. Mirror that with your defense of Taggart... he's the one responsible for coaching players up. If they can't block and tackle, that's a reflection of what he has taught them. At the end of the day, you're crazy if you think McNeese St. pulls better recruits than USF. This game was a reflection of coaching... you can say those players made mistakes but a lot of that can be attributed to poor coaching. When the mistakes are few and far in between, then you can start placing blame on the players because the coaches did all they could. When they're all making mistakes and getting blown out, that's 100% the coaches fault. The coaches didn't put them in position to win to begin with.

You and I share a couple things here: we are both extremely upset at last night's game, and we both had higher expectations for our team's performance - assuming you are indeed a Bulls fan. Tough to tell these days.

Difference is that my eyes have been opened to just what a challenge our team is right now. You can't see this because you, like many others, are focusing on talent difference when you should be focused on difference in mentality.

Dude. No matter how much you try and sell me that Skip Holtz mentally killed this team, I'm not buying it. First, Willie has been the coach for 9 months. Second, we never lost like this under Skip. Third, it was a record setting 32 point loss to a I-AA school.

There is a lot of blame to go around, and the mental state of our team is one, but that isn't the whole reason we lost last night.

I've never said it was the whole reason, only that its been a large part.

No it wasn't. Ha this been a conference game with a similar score I'd probably agree with that, but not McNeese State.

Our players didn't come to play and our game planning was even more pathetic. That is why we lost.

But please, deflect this from Willie, because he didn't come out looking great.

I think he's going to be a very good coach for us, and Skip needed to be canned, but the players and Taggart have a lot of work to do, because McNeese State was about as easy of a team we'll see this year.

Out Played, out coached, out hustled, NO heart, NO balls to stand up to McNeese.

We still have a team of quitters that don't have the balls to compete.

Total f'ing disgusting.

Gotten the Holtz out of this team?  Three years of Holtz teams competed to the final whistle against far better teams than McNeese St.  There was the Pitt game last year, but that was the last game of the season with a third string QB and a 3-8 record.   Holtz teams lost because of poor Xs and Os, not because of lack of effort.

Not often a team quits on a game the first week of the season.

I'd say Taggart got too much of the Holtz out.

You do realize that 3rd string QB started for us last night, right? Edited by GaUSFBull

And there were 3 other options the head coach didn't choose. 2 of them we can guess about, but 1 of them was clearly a better option.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
