On topic, the only thing I really have to add to this thread, because any name I can think of has been mentioned already, is that Jim Leavitt is the only possible choice for No. 1. If he's not the top name on the list, it is invalid.

For me, the only other name at the top of the that list that wouldn't invalidate it would be Paul Griffin.

Hmmm. I still say Leavitt, but I think you're right that Griffin deserves consideration as well.

I'll throw out some names, and I tend to think coaches and administrators would hold more spots on this list than athletes:

AD's:

**** Bowers

Paul Griffin

Lee Roy Selmon

Doug Woolard

Donors:

**** Wittcoff

Les and Pam Muma

Administrators:

Barbara Sparks McGlinchy

Presidents:

Judy Genshaft

Betty Castor

Frank Borkowski

John Allen

Coaches:

Jim Leavitt

Lee Rose

Bobby Paschal

Stan Heath

Ken Ericksen

Jose Fernandez

Geogre Keifer

Robin Roberts

Eddie Cardieri

Perri Hankins

Athletes:

Chad Barnhart

Marquel Blackwell

Michelle Collier

Sara Nevins

Mike Jenkins

Chucky Atkins

Charlie Bradley

Jessica Dickson

Jeff Cunningham

I'll think of more, but these come to mind right away.

I didn't look up any spellings, so forgive all the names I got wrong.

All of those names listed were not very supportive of football and some did not have a great vision for USF athletics.

John Allen really is the cause of our current conference situation.

Allen certainly laid the groundwork but for many years after him too many in power at USF were satisfied with competing vs StLeo,Eckerd and Jacksonville. We really lacked the visionaries early in our history that saw and wanted more.Paul Griffin did a lot to change that.

The late Rep. Sam Gibbons was responsible for the creation of the university without which we'd have no teams.

In my humble opinion, Lee Roy Selmon, Paul Griffin or Jim Leavitt would all be worthy of a #1 spot on the list ... and I wouldn't have an objection to any of those 3 ending up on top.

And that is not to take away the great accomplishments of everyone else on the list. I just think football is the national voice for USF, and it got us into the Big East ....so the top of the list must reflect that.

I'd argue that this website belongs on the list.  Look at how many people have visited this website (since it has opened), which basically does nothing but promote USF.  Most of my USF news I get from here instead of going directly to blogs or articles.

+1

Brad should get a bronze statue.

Or at least be appointed A.D.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
