I like this, building a common cause and discipline. Skip would have given Davis a cookie and said don't worry this time.

No, go back, this was also something we "loved" about Skip. Helmet to the front left of your square for warmups, everyone in the same clothes, sideline attendees in team shirt and black shorts. I like the discipline, do not get me wrong, but Skip brought this discipline and it was needed.
Sorry, those on here believe that every time Skip took a breath, he took a breath in an unproductive manner. Everything he did was the worst move possible. He is the worst coach in the history of mankind and did nothing right, ever! (Not even once)
I go by results and in that vain HE SUCKED.

Yet you love Taggart and he has thus far produced zero results. You don't see the discrepancy in your argument?

How can you pass judgement on Taggart? Gotta see what happens on the field over three years.

And where have you read I have already passed judgement on Tags? I have only discussed the positive attributes he has brought the program during the "off season." Believe me, if Taggs should put up the same or similar disastrous numbers your beloved Holtz put up I will be the first to day that he too sucks.

You inferred that Skip had no discipline. If you wanrt to think that, then think that. If not then don't post it. Own it son.

Sure I will own it, Skip had no discipline or intelligence as a coach.

My 2 cents

Skip is a good coach. He won everywhere he went, but here he made a huge mistake. I hope he learned

He came to USF thinking it was an emotionally battered locker room. He felt he had a mandate to be the anti leavitt and rebuild trust or whatever in the locker room. So the team sang songs, had camps in vero, picked their jersey colors every week. . . . . And stopped sellin out in games. By the end kids were walking off the field.

He gave the players rope and they hung him with it. The coaching was subpar but those players lost those games and turned in he half hearted effort.

Skip needed to go. . . But he's not an imbecile.

Skip did some great things and was a man of character.  The problem with Skip was he lacked "visible" passion and that's what you need to succeed when leading young men.  They feed off that stuff.  When you combine a lack of passion with horrific game management you find a way to lose games you should win bc it eliminates the advantage of your physical talent.  Skip wasn't a fit and he's gone thank goodness, but the need to absolutely slay the guy at every turn is getting old bc no one wants to lose and come home to their family to have to tell them you've been fired.

This is coming from someone who was very vocal about wanting him fired, but firing is enough.  No need to pile on as it's a negative reflection on you and the university we all love.

Time to move on...

Just my two cents.

Not tradition. Discipline.

Exactly.  Tradition would be winning the BE regularly or regularly going to BCS bowls.  That's tradition, this is unity and discipline but I think that it is well overdue.

I kind of agree with you. Skip is a good coach. But, he is a manager. He doesn't DO the coaching, he makes some of the decisions and leaves the actual coaching to his assistants. I believe that Skip's mistake was bringing a C-USA staff with him here, giving them all 50%+ raises, and not holding them accountable. I don't know if you can be a "manager" and win at this level... at least without exceptional assistants...

That brings us to Tags... It is my one concern about him. Is he hands on enough to actually coach them up, or, is he going to leave it to his assistant coaches to do all of the work? We need him to be involved in everything, or, at least something. Say what you want about Leavitt, but, that was his defense. He owned it. He saw the hidden talent in players like Selvie and Nate Allen. A Jim Leavitt defense was not going to suck, he would not allow it. Hopefully Tags has that same fire (though I expect him to own the offense, which is fine).
