Robbins is only 3-stars on ESPN, but since he's committed to USF, his star count will most assuredly drop...

USF lands 4-Star DB

On Sunday Bulls247 got confirmation that USF landed it’s second commitment of the weekend. Miami (Fla.) four-star defensive back Lamar Robbins informed the staff he was committing.

Robbins, a 6-foot-3, 188-pound prospect shines on both sides of the ball for Southridge high school. Robbins is ranked as the 14th best athlete, 35th best player in Florida and he’s ranked as the 237th best overall recruit in the country.

Robbins is an explosive receiver and a rangy safety prospect, that has the versatility to play nearly every position in the defensive backfield. Robbins still needs to add weight to his 6-3 frame, but overall he’s a huge pickup for Willie Taggart and the new USF staff.

We’ll have more with Robbins later in the day.

I'm loving all this D we are picking up, hopefully our AD is reaching out to our Sunday Alum and other stars to have them come by and meet these kids when camp opens in August.

Hopefully we can get some O too though, liking our O-line and the RB pick up...just hope we have a QB that can help

Hey, if Floyd can master the snap and the hand-off, maybe that'll be enuf?

Rivals article

How big is the verbal commitment of Lamar Robbins? We break down the immediate impact of what this does for South Florida and especially the hard work of the coaching staff - especially Larry Scott - on the recruiting trail. USF wasn't listed in Robbins' original final four - but a late push results in a new Bull.

Rivals.com Southeast/Florida College Football Recruiting Analyst Kynon Codring says that Robbins is a "long, tall cornerback." Codrington goes on further to assess that, "Robbins is very good in man-to-man coverage and has excellent ball skills. He will attack the ball at the highest point and does a nice job in his backpedal." The Bulls can look forward to a 6-foot-3 defensive back that, according to Codring, can "battle bigger receivers and isn't a liability in the red zone on jump balls?[Robbins] closes well and is a solid open field tackler."

Robbins will be a welcomed addition to a USF secondary that allowed 251.9 passing and 401.8 total yards per game. The Rivals.com four-star commit should be an immediate contributor to a defense that had 25 sacks and just two interceptions in all of the 2012 season.

Robbins should be thrown right into the fire next year, and could work his way into the starting lineup. With his lockdown ability, Robbins could be a much needed addition against some of the top wide receivers in the Big East.
