Well he was DC when the Raiders reached the Super Bowl (and he had coached under Gruden before he came to Tampa)...granted, the Raiders defense got crushed by the Bucs in that game (but these youngsters are too young to remember probably :P ).

Did coach on a national championship team with Georgia Tech - at least he's been there.

At the very least, this guy is about 52-53 years old and has quite a bit of DC experience both in college and pro, even if the Bengals and Raiders are pretty subpar teams (may not be entirely his fault).

Definitely an obscure hire, but can only figure Taggart knows him from Oakland's proximity to Stanford in the bay area. Anyone know what type of defense he runs, I think 4-3, but wonder if it's aggressive, or cushiony Cosh soft/zone?

Disgusting that that douchebag still has a source within USF ....

For once we are completely simpatico.

I am gonna wait and see on this one. Not much joy in Oakland but he has a ton of experience.

I'm thinking this guy was recommended to Taggart by Harbaugh. He was the DC in Oakland while Harbaugh was there as the QB coach.

Chuck Bresnahan

Chuck Bresnahan has spent almost 30 years in the NFL and major college football coaching defense. After helping Georgia Tech to the 1990 National Championship, Bresnaham moved on to coach with the Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, Cincinnati Bengals and two different stints with the Oakland Raiders, including serving as their defensive coordinator last season. Bresnahan has coached Hall of Famer Rod Woodson and numerous Pro Bowlers, including Charles Woodson, Pepper Johnson, Justin Smith and Dhani Jones. Now, he trains the next generation of stars at FBU!

Love the FL Tuskers part of his bio. DC under Jay Gruden, working for Joe Theismann. I am still scratching my nuts head about this one.

Oakland Raiders DC from 2000-2003. In 2000, 2001, and 2002 the Raiders made the playoffs and won their division.

Bengals DC from 2005-2007. In 2005, the Bengals were Division champions.

In 2011, returned to the Raiders. They were 8-8 that year.

Before his NFL work, he was an assistant coach at Navy and Georgia Tech.

That makes this hire sound solid. Thanks for the detective work!!

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
