Has Shannon decided to be the DC yet? :D

Is it his decision ?

If he's offered the job, yes.

Really?

Cam Newton is the 13th ranked QB this year.(His 2nd NFL season).

http://espn.go.com/n...12/seasontype/2

My point is that if Weinke's only fame to claim in regards to coaching is getting Cam Newton ready for the NFL than there would be better candidates out there, Yes? Cam was going to be drafted with or without Chris Weinkes help.

Not knocking Chris for his NC and Heisman campaign while at FSU( GREAT accomplishments) but he didnt win the NC alone.

As for the IMG business, its just that, a business to make money training athletes of all types not just FB players.

Trip we know you love Skippy Poo and if you were in charge of hiring at USF, Skip would had gotten a raise again this year. :)

Just want us to hire the BEST PEOPLE AVAIL, not based on name recognition, or because they have FSU ties ect....

Im sure Coach T will do what is best and re-build the mess that Skip left.

In 2010, Weinke teamed with Pro Football Hall of Fame coach John Madden and became the director of the IMG Madden Football Academy in Bradenton, FL.[7] The Academy offers a comprehensive football training program that emphasizes teaching the fundamental techniques of the game

Seems that he works with the FOOTBALL players. Not all athletes, but FOOTBALL players. Get it, just in case..he is the director of the IMG Madden FOOTBALL Academy in Bradenton. The Academy offers a comprehensve FOOTBALL training program that emphasizes teaching the fundamental techniques of the game. As you may or may not realize, he TEACHES AKA COACHES, FOOTBALL players.

It's like your just glossing over the fact that 13th best QB means only 12 people in the world do what he does better than him. He is still going to throw for 3500+ yards and 20 TD's. And Weinke helped him be the best rookie QB EVER.

Weinke has also worked with Russell Wilson (8th rated), Josh Freeman (16th), Ponder (25th), and Tannehill (29th).

Say what you will about these QB's relative to the other 27 starting QB's but Weinke must be pretty respected and knowledgeable if he's working with 15% of the NFL's starting QB's. More if you count Cousins who is now starting for an injured RGIII.

I'm not sure what you mean about IMG being a business. Yes, they are a business. And business is good with guys like Brees, Eli Manning, and Alex Smith all also associated with IMG, although they were before Weinke's time. When you do work at the highest level you get compensated for it.

It's also not just that Weinke was a Heisman and NC winner, but the type of player he was. He was the prototypical pro style game manager, coach on the field, mental giant QB.

Besides being able to coach, being able to recruit who you are going to coach is just as important and that means selling a story. With his history/experience and ties in Bradenton, yeah, he'd be a good person to have on staff in some capacity. I'm on board with this one...Class act of a person as well...

Im ok either way if he is the best person avail, But all this Winky hype above as being this Great QB ect.... is not true, He is one of the Top 5 all time flops in the NFL as a QB after winning the heisman. Lets hope the old saying is true, Those who can do , do, those who cant teach.

Chris Weinke (2000) - After an unconventional six-year stint in minor league baseball, Weinke joined the Seminoles at the quarterback position.[32] He took the team to a National Championship in 2000, the same year that he won the Heisman. He was drafted with a deep overall 106th pick in round four by the Carolina Panthers[33] He spent four non-consecutive playing seasons with the Panthers (2001–2006). After a dreadful 2001 season in which he started only one winning game,[34] his duties were relegated almost entirely as a backup quarterback for Jake Delhomme. After having only two winning starts over four seasons, the Heisman winner was released in 2007,[35] then signed by the San Francisco 49ers due to a series of injuries to their starting quarterbacks.[36] He started only one game with the team, a 20-7 loss to the Browns. The 49ers did not return him to the roster in 2008. Weinke is now the director of the IMG Madden Football Academy.

Teach AKA COACH!!

Those that use the term "those that can, do, those that can't, teach" show themselves to be complete tools! Who The "F" do you think teaches those that can? Teachers have some of the most difficult jobs in the world. They have to deal with tools like you every day. Mark Twain rule in effect for you!

Josh Newberg â€@joshnewberg247

I have learned that former FSU Heisman winning QB Chris Weinke is a candidate to fill the QB coaching position at USF

That would definitely be an interesting hire.

I listened to a broadcast which he did yesterday on Bull and Fox. I was impressed with him.
