So I see that the assistant coach pool is $1.9 million, up from $1.85 according to this article (http://www.tampabay....last-years-pace).

Fitch - $280,000

Patrick - $170,000

Scott - $170,000

Smith - $210,000 DB Coach - this guy should have his LinkedIn account ready.

Vass - $190,000

Hargreaves - $190,000

Shankweiler - $185,000

Cosh - $325,000 (I threw up in my mouth typing this)

Pathon - $80,000

The assistant pool was going to increase to 1.9 million for this year any way.

Taggart is going to bring in Blackwell and Woodie. Those guys are in the position much like Taggart where they can get a substantial pay increase, to compensation that is very fair for their experience, and still be making less than their former counterparts here. You can start them "low," probably 140 or less. KP and Scott look likely to remain, and probably at similar or slight pay raises. No reason to pay a TE coach 190k or a lame DB coach 210K or a guy who coaches only half the D Line 190K.

Also, last years salaries also only total up to 1.8, so I think you can find another 150-200k to spend just by bringing in a couple younger coaches and using the rest of the money that wasn't utilized last year ( or we don't know how it was used, as it was allocated after the article was published).

The question is USF prepared to buy Cosh out or are they handicapping Taggart with that salary?

Can't see DW making Coach T keep Cosh...

If usf comes up with that money, taggart calls plays which keeps oc pay low, and hires the right mix of young guys, I think their is good money there for a high level dc

No, but does that $300k come out of the 2013 assistant salary pool?

Fair question, but you have to hope not. Since we're "saving" almost that much from firing Holtz even with his buyout it's hopefully a wash budget-wise.

Depends when all the buyouts are due. USF is paying Willie T's $500k buyout from WKU. If that is due all at once, we don't have that in the budget.

Maybe it can come from the same pot DW's incentives would have if we'd won the NC this year. ;)

Why not Cristobal on offense and Shannon on defense? Keep Scott and Patrick. Bring Blackwell and a couple other wku guys. Grothe as a GA.

We'd havE an amazing recruiting class we'd bring in this year.

I think the money is probably there

Buzz now about USF DC job under Willie Taggart. Florida LBs coach D.J. Durkin was with him at Stanford; TCU LBs Randy Shannon interested.

What a great combo

According to GA, the buyout will be paid over 5 years.

"His contract will pay him $1.15-million a year for five years, which works to $850,000 less per year than Skip Holtz was making. USF will be paying his $500,000 buyout to Western Kentucky, so that works to an additional $100,000 per year, but it's worth noting that he will keep the same staff for his assistants as Holtz: $1.9-million, which should allow him to surround himself with solid recruiters as an extension of his own coaching philosophy."

For a minute I thought I was crazy. Someone said we were paying him 1.9 million and I was like

Hopefully with only 1.15 mill if we need to bump up the pool to get a solid DC we can afford to.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
