Every fan base would like to have a great coach that is a lifer.

Of course. That isnt realistic however at 90% of universities. It certainly isnt realistic at this one.

While i agree that it is highly improbable, I won't say it's impossible. I'm a never say never kind of guy.

Admirable. Post #94 describes how that would happen here at USF.

it's as realistic at this one as it is any other.

Troy, Kansas state, virginia tech, tcu, wake forest, missouri, oregon state all have coaches that have been around for 10+ years.

Coaches leave programs like Wisconsin these days. It is reported Nebraska's Bo Pelini reached out to TN. Those programs are giants.

There are really only a handful of true desitnation jobs. Every other program is leave-able.

If a coach leaves USF voluntarily it is because he was successful here, and I'd rather that than what we just went through.

Give me a guy who wins. If he stays he stays. I don't want USF to HAVE to fire someone.

true, but those coaches may have stayed for several reasons. Im not saying it is impossible, but unlikely. Especially as shaky as things are right now.

Also those 7 programs are less than 5% of the FBS teams so his 90% comment was correct.

Tar Heel fan: I come in peace.

Y'all should hire Butch Davis. Facts:

1. Butch if a GREAT recruiter (not just good), who knows Florida as well as any area.

2. Butch completely turned the Miami program around when they were a dumpster fire on probation, setting the stage for back-to-back MNCs right after he left for the Browns.

3. Butch was the last HC to lead the Browns to the playoffs.

4. Butch turned around a UNC program that had become mediocre at best, finishing with 3 straight eight-win bowl teams.

5. The 2010 UNC team had nine (!!!) players drafted to the NFL (most in the country).

6. With his experience & connections, Butch Davis will assemble an awesome staff at USF.

7. Butch currently lives in Tampa and would love to settle his family down there for good. At 61 w/ a clean bill of health (cancer-free), you can expect to get at least a decade from him, which is probably more than you'd get from an up & comer who enjoys exceptional success at USF (= reality of BE, sharing the same state with Florida and Florida State).

8. Butch was COMPLETELY cleared of wrongdoing by the NCAA for improper benefits from agents/ others & academic improprieties, and then thrown under the bus by a cowardly administration that wanted to save face. Some of the "improper benefits" included current players staying on a former player's couch while on a visit to LA, and the NCAA deciding that should cost the same as a $200 hotel room (seriously!); similarly, they decided that picking the guys up at the airport was the same as a $50 limousine ride (no lie!). There were also watches & jewelry from agents, etc. Most of it would have never been discovered if the UNC administration hadn't fallen all over themselves to pull down their pants and let the NCAA investigators poke around in there at the first hint of impropriety. As for the academic stuff, neither the FB team or the athletic office had any control over/ responsibility for what went on (which also wasn't nearly as shocking as has been portrayed elsewhere). Butch was scapegoated by an administration that was completely inept at handling a crisis (no prior experience); 95% of UNC fans still very much love Coach Davis, and are ashamed of how he was treated in Chapel Hill.

Good luck w/ your search in the home stretch...

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
