Houston Nutt interested in USF

Neither has Houston Nutt. He tied for the SEC West title three times, but only went to the SEC championship game once and got blasted by Florida on their way to the national title in 2006.

I think he went twice. losing to georgia in 2002 30-3

He's won his division. One with LSU, Alabama and Auburn. That easily equals winning 20 Big East titles.

He's won his division. One with LSU, Alabama and Auburn. That easily equals winning 20 Big East titles.

6 team division.

one year LSU was 4-7(2-6) Alabama was 7-5(4-4) . auburn was 3-8(1-7) and he split it with mississippi state. not impressive.

the second time alabama was on probation. they would have won it otherwise and he tied 3 way with auburn and lsu. his east opponents were kentucky(which he lost to) 5-7 south carolina and 8-5 tenn. not impressive

his third time he did win it outright against a good auburn and lsu. alabama was terrible 6-7. he had gus malzahn as his OC that year. same guy that won a NC as OC at auburn.

it needs to be in context. alabama was awful for awhile. so was lsu and auburn.

I always heard that only reason Malzahn came to Arkansas as OC was because of a package deal to bring in Mitch Mustain - Malzahn was Mustain's HS coach, I believe. Mustain didn't exactly work out for Nutt and Arkansas.

Mustain was 8-0 as a true freshman starter for #11 arkansas until Nutt benched him for no apparent reason. it led to his transfer as well as Malzahn leaving. it ultimately got Nutt fired.

Gotcha. Tells me a little more about Nutt that makes me want him very far away from USF ... not like I needed another reason anyway.

Mustain never did anything else in college. Maybe Nutt made the right move.

he got fired over it and lost malzahn to tulsa. malzahn went on to win NC for auburn. not sure it was such a wise move. mustain still got a free education from USC and backed up 2 NFL QBs.
