Houston Nutt interested in USF

I always heard that only reason Malzahn came to Arkansas as OC was because of a package deal to bring in Mitch Mustain - Malzahn was Mustain's HS coach, I believe. Mustain didn't exactly work out for Nutt and Arkansas.

Interesting note: In 2006, when he won the conference div title, Gus Malzahn was his OC AND McFadden was a Heisman runner-up

Take that away, in the preceding years he was 4-4 in conference, 3-5, 2-6. In the year after he was 4-4 again.

Neither has Houston Nutt. He tied for the SEC West title three times, but only went to the SEC championship game once and got blasted by Florida on their way to the national title in 2006.

Mustain was 8-0 as a true freshman starter for #11 arkansas until Nutt benched him for no apparent reason. it led to his transfer as well as Malzahn leaving. it ultimately got Nutt fired.arkansas went 10-4 that year.

Its not fair to gauge his ability on his sucess at Ole Miss... Ole Miss has issues with getting good recruits given all of the Confederacy items that it embraces. If you were to put Nick Saban at Ole Miss he would not fair any better.

Nutt is not my first, second, or third choice, but he is a proven low level SEC coach, which would make him a God in the New Big East, so he would be on my list.

Gotcha, thanks. I thought he had won the SEC, but I think I had merged memories between SEC West and the overall SEC championship.
