McNeese State beat Middle Tennessee State to open this year, in their house. MTSU has made strides since, beating Georgia Tech and could win the SunBelt if they beat Arkansas State this weekend.

McNeese State even played LSU kinda close for a while.

If they upset USF and we lose our first game to an FCS school (while member of the Big East, or whatever it will be), I fully expect some cars to be overturned outside.

FAU joins Conference USA

Florida Atlantic will reunite with rival FIU in the revamped Conference USA lineup.

The Sun Sentinel has learned FAU is poised to be introduced as a new member of Conference USA, according to sources with direct knowledge of the move.

FAU will help fill the void left by defecting C-USA members Tulane and East Carolina, who jumped to the Big East This week. The Green Wave is making the move in all sports, while the Pirates will be competing in the Big East in football only.

The upheaval continued elsewhere, as Louisville officially joined the ACC Wednesday morning.

FAU was shut out during the last wave of conference realignment late last year, remaining in the Sun Belt while South Florida rival FIU accepted an invitation to join Conference USA.

But the perceived competitive gap between between the two leagues appeared to close over the past year, as Sun Belt teams were more successful against big-name opponents and had a best-ever showing against C-USA in inter-conference football contests.

The advantage of Conference USA is the league's more lucrative television contract. It could put FAU in a stronger position for future growth.

Furthermore, the conference change means FAU and FIU will resume playing the Shula Bowl, their annual football rivalry game.

Calls to the Conference USA office and Sun Belt Commissioner Karl Benson were not immediately returned.
