Did we have a mutiny tonight? Where are the seniors?

Just what exactly do the seniors deserve at this point?

Most of the seniors aren't good at football so why wouldn't we play the younger guys? They shoulda been benched weeks ago.

That would require the belief that they will improve. A belief I am not so sure a subscribe to based on the regression these last 3 years

What do we have to lose? Why not give the younger guys more reps?

Frankly it depends on how and why you are doing it... I recommended around week 3 Skip bench all seniors for the first possession because this team has looked like it had no leadership. If it is punitive because of lack of leadership or effort that is fine. If it is because they get beat out for the job, that is fine. But if it is just because you feel the season is a bust that you decide to take playing time away from a guy giving his all whose busted his tail for this school for four years and make him warm the bench for most of the last few games of his senior year... well not only is that wrong, but it will hurt you badly in recruiting.

IMO the effort hasn't been there.

On the pregame show there was an interview with Skip. He says he told the seniors that if they wanted to finish their careers by coasting along he would replace them with younger and hungrier players. If they want to work and finish strong, they deserve the opportunity to play. He specifically singled out Popek, Estanor, Grissom and a couple of other guys that I can't remember as seniors that were doing what they were supposed to do to and getting their work in. He praised their effort and leadership. He said there were others that were coasting, and there were younger players working harder that had earned an opportunity and they would get that opportunity.

He's doing the right thing here, though I also would have preferred to see this happen (much?) earlier in the season. If you aren't working for it, next man up. Upperclassmen should play more because they've been working and improving their game for longer than the younger players, not because they have been hanging around the program longer.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
