AD on Football team: We are close to putting it all together

I'm surprised the players are getting blamed by you in multiple posts slick. It seems to me, the lack of a defense is more a coaching decision or philosophy or fear than anything to do with the players having skill or "thinking caps". How else can you explain giving up so much on 3rd down and always, always playing behind the receiver in an apparent effort to give up only 17 and not 47? I also seem to remember many of you blaming players mistakes on the coach not so many years ago. Skip has responsibility for this team. There is no reason to section off the blame to the players so Skip can emerge with no accountability. He's the coach.

I coach 6th graders as well as high schoolers. It is incumbent on me to have them prepared to play. I coach them to be in position, their athletic ability defines what they can do. If the players aren't on the same page, that's a coaching issue. Sorry. Like Skip, I can't coach height, speed, or leaping ability. But I can coach team defense and offense. I can get people to the line or open underneath (basketball).

Let's realize that USF is no different than any other school and Holtz is no different than any other coach. He has responsibility. We've had many winnable games escape in nearly the same fashion. It begs the question. Why aren't we any better? Why are guys out of position? Does our team get the same practice time as other teams?

I think it's wrong to blame players regardless of what you think of the coach. Certainly, player talent would be a factor if we were playing Top 15 teams. We're not. We're losing to teams less talented.

Does anyone find it interesting that the offensive line, with Skip's guys, seems to be better that we've seen in a while?

since the injury to popes forced them to play thor and gundmundsson that side of the line looks better in run blocking. Makes me wonder why they didn't rotate those young guys in earlier since the 2injury guys they played at tackle weren't very good and popes was out of position.

Let me specifify, the D sucks. They don't play aggressive because they don't have the skill. Regardless if the games are close or not, these guys have Not closed a game in almost two years. Yes, the coaching is even worse...it Is a total team effort. I am looking forward to seeing a new set of players.
