his contract ... probably has stipulations on negative performance.

No, it probably doesn't. At least, I've never heard of that. Not sure where that assumption is coming from.

There is enough cash in the USF bank account to cover it but they don't have the balls to do it.

Speaking of unfounded assumptions. The USF athletic department operated at a slight loss last year (source: http://b2.caspio.com/dp.asp). Total revenues of $41,948,123, total expenses of $43,494,246. For 2010? Total revenues of $39,190,939, total expenses of $39,088,660. Not sure where you think this surplus of cash is coming from.

believe whatever you want

Ok so he's under contract until 2017 at $2mill a year. That's $10 mill. Now say in his contract if we chose to fire him we owe half of his salary for the remaining years. That equates to $5 or roughly 2.5 seasons worth. USF then hires another coach for the same original salary of Holtz at $1.8 mill to a 4 year contract. That's 7,280,000 invested in a new coach. Add Holtz hypothetical buyout of $5 million to total $12 million. So that sets USF back $2 million, all of which can and will be made back through game profit and new tv contract.

90% of the Universities in the country operate at next to no huge net profit. Florida State operated close to $10 million in the hole.

at 2 Million a year for what-- 5 years-- that's 10 million.

does USF own stubhub cuz I don't see that buying out this contract

So USF would have to pay him $10 million to gtfo of Tampa but he would only have to pay USF $1 mill to tell us to GFY and coach somewhere else? Call BS on that one and any person to create and present a contract like that is a moron.

tell that to the Bucs who just recently stopped having to pay Gruden

point is-- while we might not be on the hook for the entire 10Million or whatever it is--- it will be a sizable chunk of change in addition to paying the new coach. USF is nowhere near as flush as some like to believe around here.

How much does USF lose in ticket and merchandising because of this bumb. How many recruits? How many endorsments?

It's triage time... Time to cut out the cancer before it spreads.

Sorry for all you married folk but look at the positives, at least there will be a lot of hot pieces of tail runing around this weekend and IMO probably the easiest of them all! It's all what you make it! Great way to get your frustration out.

wishful thinking boys, unless somebody ponies up the cash we're stuck with the politician Holtz. Remember, he just got a contract extension through 2017 boys.

u used the word "boys" two too many times in this post.

While USF does not have Alabama money, you sound like USF has to hold bake sales and garage sales every weekend just to keep the doors open in the Athletics department. If that was so then why did they give Holtz and Heath contract extensions? Heck, they just gave Doug Woolard an extension that included a huge raise.

I am not in the "fire Holtz now" crowd, but USF athletics is not in dire financial shape. They could fire Holtz, but that is not USF's style.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
