I think this deal is a way of putting pressure on the big east for the long term. ESPN is saying that when ND goes on the market that they are going to get them. BE can go to NBC but that is the only College ball that is going to be there and may put them on the outside looking in if all other college ball is on ESPN. There was a comfort level with having ND there now it might not be.

I agree with whoever said ND will never go cable when given the option. they will choose network tv. espn couldn't guarantee they would be on tv let alone network tv.

I actually think this is the demise of espn.

there is a NFL network now. MLB network. NHL network. NBA network. big ten network. people who own the content are starting their own channels. espn doesn't own any content. they buy it and profit from it(quite handsomely too). this means the people who own it are not getting full value. eventually producing will be thought of as a commodity. their margins will get much smaller and the ones who own the content will profit more.

I would hope that the ACC is smarter than the Big 12 in that regard and have, or will, put in some safeguards against that happening ...

Notre Dame's move to ACC didn't make losers out of Big East, Big Ten and BYU

The analysis seems pretty good. Key piece that stood out to me:

The Big East now can exhale and see how the new 12-team, coast-to-coast league plays out. It's still adding a signature program in Boise State to a league that will feature Louisville, Cincinnati, Rutgers, South Florida, UConn, Central Florida, Houston, San Diego State and so on.

No, it's not the SEC. It's also not that bad. An unbeaten team from the Big East is very likely to be selected to the four-team playoff coming in 2014. In the end, that's what matters.

This also stood out to me:

The No. 1 reason for Notre Dame's move was the Irish felt a scheduling crunch and needed the guaranteed five ACC games to lighten that burden. It abhors playing weak opponents

LOL!!!! Too bad they'll have a plethora of them in the ACC ...
