I disagree. He abandoned the run game in the second half. Especially in the 3rd quarter when the defense needed it after the Lamar touchdown. USF can not afford to give up on the run. Our O-Line should be able to wear to wear teams down.

  • 3rd Quarter Rushes 10 (3 Murray, 2 Lamar, 4 Daniels, 1 Hopkins)
  • 4th Quarter Rushes 3 (1 Murray, 2 Daniels)

What in the history of USF's running game makes you say that? We can't run against Tenn-Chatt why should we be able to wear down real teams?

you can't seriously be thinking anything we saw in the opening game should be used as a benchmark?

That was a glorified scrimmage played with very basic schemes/tons of depth chart players and has always been played that way regardless of the coach

You shouldn't need to open up a playbook to push back D II linemen. I'm sure Florida State and Oklahoma don't open up their playbooks against those type teams. They just out physical and out talent them. And we didn't get too deep into our bench until late in the 2nd half. Also, FSU and OU emptied their benches and still moved the ball.

Just saying that we never just run, run, run through large open gaps in the line.

^^^^^ this. Our OL play was better and we were getting good chunks of yards on the ground.

We improved from game 1 and that is what matters. Hope to see that improvement going forward.

These next few games will be very telling of Fitch's capabilities. The past 2 years, we showed almost no danger of going deep, allowing teams to work man on the corners, or play the safeties tighter, causing more traffic in any underneath or mid-range passing routes.

After watching game film of our first 2 games, I doubt many d-coordinators will feel real confident in keeping their corners on an island without any over the top help. I think good chance we'll see more zone coverage, or much more blitzing (hoping to prevent time for deep routes to develop). Rutgers has a good defense that has always seemed to disrupt our normal game plan, so hopefully Fitch (and BJ) can deliver. If we can show the ability on offense to adjust (and maybe kill them on taking the underneath routes, or utilize screens) to a defense starting to take those deep routes away, then maybe it'll be time to give Fitch some credit.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
