holtz will not be here if and when first shovel of dirt occurs

if usf remains outside big 5 usf should not build a stadium

if you arent playing for the big prize you dont need your own stadium and it cannot be justifiably built unless it is with all private money--- including land and on going operating expenses

The best thing Coach Holtz can do to make this a reality is to win the BE Championship this year and then a BCS Bowl.

This will definitely take us to the next level.

no it wont

never spend good money after bad

big 5 kicked us down a level

no stadium is needed until usf can be in big 5 competing with adults

Re: the increase in student attendance from page 1, I'd be curious to know what percentage of the students living on campus already regularly attend games. Found this while searching the WWW for number of students living on campus:

Student Residences

Approximately fifteen percent of the students at USF live in dormitories; most students live in private residences, instead. The university is working to increase the number of students living in university-owned housing, however, by instituting a new rule stating that students under the age of 21 who are unmarried, do not have any dependents, and do not live with a parent or guardian must live in student housing and participate in a meal plan for at least their first year of college. There are three basic options for students living in the residence halls at USF: traditional, suite, and apartment-style. All residences are air conditioned with cable television, ethernet connections, and wireless internet service. Rates vary depending on the residence and room, suite, or apartment chosen. Living in the “Greek Village†also counts as an on-campus residence. Greek life is a major component of the culture at USF, with 29 active fraternities and 21 active sororities.

If that 15% is roughly correct and there are what, 40k students, that is about 6,000 possible students that live on campus that could attend a game without getting in their car. Would you argue that most of the surrounding apt complex students would walk to the game instead of taking a shuttle? There is a shuttle available to Ray Jay, correct?

My point is for those arguing that attendance will increase greatly, you need to consider how many additional students would show up. Plus you can ask why basketball attendance of students as always sucked. The Sun Dome is on campus, correct?

Just bringing up some things that have to go into the discussion. Not saying it would hurt attendance of students but questioning the actual increase. Plus, would a smaller stadium have a smaller student section? I know they "pay" through fees, but you need some real paying customers to make a stadium work.

Student attendance doesn't pay the bills. So, if the only reason to have it on campus is to increase student attendance, it's a losing proposition. I would imagine our student section would actually get smaller with an OCS.

Students pay more through student fees each semester than some season ticket holders.

$14 x 12 = $168 per semester.

That does cover all sports however. And it isn't close to what we've paid for Baseball, basketball and football season tix. Just sayin' that you need retail paying customers.

Not sure why student attendance would get smaller unless the tailgating opportunities weren't the same ... the noon and afternoon games attendance would probably increase.

And they pay that whether they show up or not. Student attendance is one of the last reasons you build an ocs for ...

It wouldn't do any worse than we did last season at RJS.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
