FSU is not the school we have to worry about.

Can you go back and play college baseball after you've been drafted by mlb

Chris Weinke played a few years of minor league ball before going back to FSU. That's why he was in his mid 20's while at FSU.

Same with Brandon Weeden. He's a 28 year old rookie.

Unlike the NFL and NBA, you don't ever "declare" for the MLB draft. You're just draft eligible after your senior year of high school, any year out of a JuCo, or after you turn 21 at a 4 year college/university (junior year for most, but coud be soph if you're older or redshirted).

Greg Auman â€@gregauman

FSU QB signee Jameis Winston, outfielder from Hueytown, Alabama, drafted in 15th round by Rangers ...

Hopefully he does not go pro

Per Wiki:

What is the average signing bonus in MLB for a 15th round draft pick?

Answer: About 2k and a plane ticket to the low minors.

link?

Don't think it's that low. Knew someone that got picked up in the 12th last year, got 150k. Don't think it's a 148k drop in 3 rounds.

According to a recent article by GA, an 11th rounder can't be given a signing bonus greater than 100K without penalties. I imagine a 15th rounder would drop much lower, unless the team really likes him.

I was off by 25k, but Greg is either incorrect, the rule is new, or the Angels will be slapped with a penalty.

With last year's labor agreement, the draft money has been tightened up. In the past, MLB issued guidelines but was unable to enforce them. Now there are hard caps at each draft position, and I believe there is some sort of overall cap depending on what picks you have.

In the past, the Yankees and Red Sox would draft a high school player late that everyone expected to go to college and throw several hundred thousand dollars at them. It also reduces the leverage of the player drafted, obviously. But overall it levels the playing field somewhat.

Seldom...thanks for the positive outlook! I hope AW gets to make the rounds on his trips (who wouldn't want free trips all over the place) and talks some big time guys to come with him to USF. Potential to start 4 years cannot hurt.

What I love is how 7 teams screwed Scott Boras. Appel went from 1st to 8th and is going to try to get slot money from Pittsburgh. That's going from a signing bonus of 7.2MM to 2.9MM. Some of these guys are gonna start thinking long and hard about signing with Boras, it just cost Mark Appel, $4.3MM right out of the gate. That's bird in hand money, too.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
