Former Missouri quarterback Tyler Gabbert has decided to transfer to Louisville.

Coach Charlie Strong confirmed the move via Twitter on Thursday morning, saying, "I'm excited to have Tyler Gabbert officially join our football program."

Adelson: Intrigue At Louisville For 2012

Tyler Gabbert's transfer to Louisville gives the Cardinals talent and depth at quarterback for the 2012 season, ESPN.com's Andrea Adelson writes. Blog

Gabbert announced his plans to transfer from Mizzou in May. He would have gone into fall camp in a competition with James Franklin to replace his brother, Blaine, as the starter there.

Instead, he will sit out the 2011 season because of NCAA transfer rules. Louisville spokesman Rocco Gasparro said Gabbert will have three years of eligibility remaining.

His choice certainly is an interesting one, considering hopes are high for true freshman Teddy Bridgewater to take the reins at quarterback this season for the Cardinals. Bridgewater and junior Will Stein both are expected to get playing time.

Gabbert does have a connection to Louisville. Quarterbacks coach Shawn Watson recruited both Gabbert brothers when he was offensive coordinator at Nebraska. Blaine and Tyler both had given verbal commitments to the Huskers before signing with Missouri.

The younger Gabbert has yet to play in a collegiate game. Blaine Gabbert left school after his junior year and was taken No. 10 overall by the Jaguars in April's NFL draft.

If Bridgewater is as talented is advertised, he should have no issues solidifying the starting spot. Louisville has to build up as much depth as possible, just in case things don't pan out. This is the same for USF.

I still say Bridgewater will beat him out.  Gabbert couldn't cut the mustard at Mizzou, now he's going up against who was the #6 or #8 QB prospect in the country?

Not sure about that, but since you are a self-professed Miami homer, I can see why you would state that. How about going back to the pre-Kragthorpe, Petrino-led Louisville days?

Adds good depth and competition for sure.  Only thing I dont get as Gabbert apparently left Mizzou because of competition at the qb spot and he is pretty much going into the same spot at UL.  I think Bridgewater would have to utterly be horrible for him not to be the qb at UL for the years to come.

He is already gone Smazza,  bolted on the 8th. Reports are he is going to visit Mizzou State.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
