Leather with another Monster game. I don't like seeing Swift with 39 minutes but he did have 9 assisissts. 20 turnovers is too much, but from what I heard of the net broadcast it was a real sloppy game anyway. Sounds like a broken record, but gotta cut down on the sloppy turnovers. Leather, Swift & Dennis combined for 21-23 from the FT line.

MM,

I agree in that USF did not play very well. What they did do well was finish strong unlike they did against some other teams in the past. It is pretty good when you can win on the road with not playing your best basketball. I agree that USF would have been in big trouble against a better foe on the road if they played sloppy like that. I am just glad we are 1-0 in C-USA. It feels good to get that first win out of the way. Hopefully, USF can win Saturday against a beatable UAB team. USF has played better at home this year, so I hope it continues. 2-0 would be great!!!

NCAA Game Summary - South Florida at East Carolina

January 05, 2005

Greenville, NC (Sports Network) - Terrence Leather poured in 18 points and ripped down 16 rebounds as the South Florida Bulls edged out the Pirates of East Carolina, 72-71, in a Conference USA battle at Minges Coliseum.

Leather connected on just 5-of-15 shots from the field, but converted 8-of-9 chances from the charity stripe for the Bulls (8-4, 1-0 C-USA). He also cleared 11 of his 16 rebounds off the defensive glass to round out his double- double.

Collin Dennis shot 9-of-10 from the free throw line and totaled 15 points on the night, while Brian Swift scored 14 points and James Holmes contributed 10 points to the win.

Moussa Badiane netted 16 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and posted four blocks in the losing effort for the Pirates (5-8, 0-1). Mike Cook shot 7-of-13 from the field and tallied a team-high 18 points for ECU. Tom Hammonds finished with 14 points.

ECU shot 43.8 percent from the field in the first half and held a 42-32 advantage at the break.

USF shot just 37.7 percent from the field on the game but made 19-of-27 shots from the free throw line in the second stanza to pave the way to the win.

The Bulls outrebounded the Pirates, 42-39, and received 22 points off the bench

TeamRanking.com had made ECU a .281 favorite.

Right now they have UAB a 1.727 point favorite, but that will change once they recalculate.

We have a real shot at beating a pretty decent UAB team in the Sun Dome. That will be another big test for us.

Yesterday, TeamRanking.com made UAB an 11 point favorite at home against So Miss. UAB won by 8, 83-75.

It seems that UAB has not played well on the road so far, except one neutral game. I hope that trends keeps up Saturday night.  ;D

At least we got a nice game story on CBS Sportsline for a change:

Frosh caps Bulls C-USA win

Jan. 6, 2005

GREENVILLE, N.C. - USF is powered by its seniors, but a jolt from an energized freshman keyed a 72-71 victory over East Carolina in both teams' Conference USA opener Wednesday night.

Reserve guard Collin Dennis made six free throws in as many attempts in the final 1:37, two after being fouled on a breakaway after his steal provided the Bulls (8-4, 1-0) a three-point lead with 28.8 seconds remaining, USF's largest lead of the night.

Center Moussa Badiane scored for the Pirates (5-8, 0-1) to cut the Bulls' advantage to one, but Dennis, coming off a career-best 21 points against Texas-Arlington, drained two more foul shots with 14.7 left, pushing the lead to three.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
