Larry hated Kurt Benson. The fact that Bobby Knight recruited Larry heavily and then stopped talking to him when he got there also caused the change of heart. He was homesick as well, but it wasn't the #1 reason alone for him leaving. He went to IU because his father loved IU more than the world. It was those three things combined that chased Larry. This information is right from the source and his cousin.

Sherrif, I'm not claiming that homesickness was the sole reason, but it was reported to play a role.  I was instead disputing Beastie's rant saying that this was unheard of and that a good coach could have prevented it.  You can fault him for a lot of things, but Bobby Knight is a helluva coach.  

To be honest, I'm surprised Beastie hasn't accused McCullum of being on the grassy knoll.  At least not yet.

Ya... homesickness was a role in it... I was giving the other two factors that convinced him to leave. Someday at my roommates next family reunion, I hope to get to meet Larry in person and ask him. It would be cool to shoot the sh_t with one of the best shooters of all time.

Severe homesickness can be a dibiltory illness. It effects your thought, actions, eating habits, sleep, you name it. It can lead to a more dibilitating illness... depression. I think Waters was a victim of this. Look at how many returnees back to Tampa that wanted to be close to the family on the football team. Some kids just can't handle being alone and away from home. I wish Waters the best, now we move forward!

Please give McCullum more class now that we are 8-4. 8-4 with key players out because of illness and injuries is huge for USF right now. Also, please tell us why Colin Dennis, James Holmes, Prek, Jones, etc are still on the team??? Face it, the McCullum era will be a big success wheter you want that or not.

Urban Meyer's OWN players that HE recruited don't quit.

Brahman, I'll give Mccullum all the "class" that he wants??....I didn't realize his players were getting old because of illness and injury??  Not sure what any of that means though.  

Am I the only one who relalizes that we haven't beaten ANYBODy yet??  ECU may be the worst team in Div I college basketball and would be beaten easily by ucf, and we were only better than them for one HALF.  Keep hangin' your hat on that 8-4 record against some of the worst teams in college basketball buddy.  It won't be there too much longer.

Beastie... you would be saying the same thing regardless of who we have beaten.  Our record right now is better than we had all of last year, already, and we have won all the games that we were supposed to.  No we haven't beaten any tournament teams yet... but in the past we haven't beaten many of them in the last 8 - 10 years anyway.  We are exactly where we are supposed to be right now.

Agreed, with the exception of MVSU who proceeded to lose 5 straight after winning against USF. That is a team we had no business losing to, and it goes to show that you can't come out flat against any team in Division 1.
