I got pulled for having a temp tag from the dmv that had a 60 expiratoin, the FHP said is was illegal (said 30 is max), said not my issue take it up with them (gave him all the paper the dmv gave me), he then gave me another ticket for my window tint...FTP especially FHP :D

I had a run there at the end of college for some of the most ridiculous tickets you could imagine. rolling through a stop. using a bike lane as a turn lane(bbdowns and fowler- everybody in front and behind me did the same. people still use it as a turn lane to this day). temp tag improperly placed even though the dealer put the thing on. and some others. I should be glad I don't live in sunburned's world. I'd have spent years behind bars. ;D

there are so many laws that are redonkulous that people have no idea about; the license plate borders dealers put on vehicles that say their name are illegal, you can not cover the plate in any manner, yet every dealership does this and many people just drive with them on, they should be in jail right now!  How many people do you see driving down the highway with there emergency flashers on during the rain?  It is illegal, put them on the chain gang.  Flahing your headlights to warn others of speed trap illegal.  The lists goes on and on, jails would be full real quick...

you guys **** and moan over suspended license issues. imagine what you will do when we hit the big time and we have guys arrested for DUI, shooting an ak-47 at a bar patron or stealing a teammate's dead girlfriend's credit card and charging it up(all gator charges under meyer-who only takes the top 1% of 1% to play for him!!).

relax. it's a suspended license.

1st conviction = 2nd degree misdemeanor - up to 60 days in the county jail and a fine of up to $500

2nd conviction = 1st degree misdemeanor - up to 365 days in the county jail and a fine of up to $1,000

3rd conviction = 3rd degree FELONY  - up to 5 years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000

Yep, its just a suspended license!  How many does Sam Barrington have at this point???

you're right. we don't have enough room for the child molesters and violent criminals as it is. we should use up more of the prison space for people who drive with a suspended license. :-\

Licenses are suspended usually for a reason.  Excessive tickets, accidents, and other things which add up.  Usually those with this are not good drivers and are not safe on the road, which is why that priviledge was taken away.  So now when they go on the road, they are not only a bad driver, and an illegal one, but they are one without insurance.  So when they have an accident and kill or severly injure one of your family members, and you have to pay for it because they are also uninsured, then you can see what you have to say about it.

A law is a law is a law.  This law is out to protect people from drivers who have issues.  And are generally uninsured and should not be on the roadway.

I hope he gets this mess straightened out, but this is his problem and he needs to do the right thing (stop driving for heaven's sake).

you want to punish a kid for a non-violent misdemeanor in a way that would ruin his life. you would want taxpayers paying $40k+ a year to house a guy in prison because he has a suspended license. that's dumb. There are violent felons and pedophiles walking the street because we need room for the non-violent offenders in prison already. It's dumb.

1st off, less than 365 day sentences do not result in being sent to prison, so they would not be taking a cell from those violent felons and pedophile in state prison.  Secondly, I wouldn't be the one ruining his life, he would.  Play by the rules and there's no problem.

So to you, it's no big deal unless someone is killed or maimed.   Somehow, I believe you'd be the first to complain about lack of punishment if a driver with a suspended license (2nd offense) kills or injures one of your parents, siblings, your wife  or children.

BTW, I'd be willing to bet more fatal accidents are caused by speeders than caused by those with an invalid license.

Perhaps the punishment for speeding should be 30-60 days in jail(1st offense)? ???

I think 1 day per mile over the speed limit would be more appropriate :)

don't take that bet, I believe Duke univeristy did a study where people who speed are more alert drivers than those who are under the speed limit.

http://www.trafficticketsecrets.com/speed-kills.html

•Police cite fatigue and alcohol as the major cause of accidents on the highway today.

•Only about 15% of fatal collisions occur on the highway.

•Roughly 70% of drivers involved in fatal accidents have drugs or alcohol in their system.

•2/3 of all fatal accidents occur at or below the speed limit.

•The slowest 5% of all drivers on the highways accounted for a larger percentage of all accidents.

And for the biggest surprise...

The same study showed that the motorists with the lowest accident rates are those who typically travel at speeds anywhere from 8 to 12 mph OVER the posted speed limit!

I got a ticket for rolling through a stop. forgot to pay it and was pulled over twice in 2 days 6 months later. The first time was because a temp tag was on the inside of my rear window and it was not properly displayed. I got a driving with license suspended ticket.  I was given a ticket for driving with  suspended license with knowledge the 2nd time.

I should go to jail for up to 365 days? I'm a law abiding tax paying citizen. This happened when I was just out of college. I was young and dumb. According to you I should got to jail for up to a year. My life would have been ruined all because I forgot to pay a rolling through a stop sign ticket.

I believe prison(even county jail) is punishment for violent offenders. I believe they should spend a great deal of time there. I don't believe prison is a deterrent. it sounds like you do but the stats don't back up your claim. 80% of people that go to prison are back within a year. They weren't deterred and they spent time there.

I'm all for someone going to prison for vehicular manslaughter. Hell DUI offenders don't spend anytime in jail and they are far more dangerous than most with a suspended license.

I have had a handful of tickets in my lifetime, the first probably when I was 18.  For most people, it is a significant event when a ticket occurs, so you KNOW when you take care of the fine for it.  I usually try to handle them as quickly as possible.  Ignorance of taking care of your penalty is never an excuse for anyone.  I was on a Jury a while back, and even drug offenders know when their court dates are, and when they are supposed to handle certain actions (like probation meetings).   So if a person get a suspended license issue, that is their fault for not following through with their obligations and treating them with an appropriate level of seriousness.  Law abiding citizens do.

I didn't say he didn't do something wrong. I didn't say I didn't do something wrong. I only said sending him(or me for that matter) to jail for up to 365 days is excessive.

BTW, law abiding citizens don't break the law to earn the ticket in the first place.

the problem with that is many laws are subjective to the what the LEO judges, and most LEO's are not brain trusts...

I'm not sure of the site you quote but here is one from the Insurance Institute for Highway safety.

In 2008, speeding was a factor in 31 percent of motor vehicle crash deaths. Speeding has been a factor in about one-third of crash deaths since 1998. Speeding was defined to include crashes in which the driver was issued a traffic citation for speeding or in which driver-related factors coded indicated speed as a factor (driving too fast for conditions, racing, or exceeding the posted speed limit).

and another

In 2008, the percentage of crash deaths involving speeding was higher on minor roads (38 percent) than on interstates and freeways (31 percent) or on other major roads (28 percent).

http://www.iihs.org/research/fatality_facts_2008/general.html#sec4

They get their stats directly from the NHTSA. Here is a quote from their site.

The percent of alcohol-impaired driving fatalities has declined from 48 percent in 1982 to 32 percent in 2007.

[Trends 2007]

http://www-fars.nhtsa.dot.gov/Main/index.aspx

It looks like speeding is just as likely to cause a traffic fatality as alcohol.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
