Frankly, we're spending millions upgrading Athletics, including soon to be practice fields for football, training facilities, weight room, all our training staff is on our campus. Nobody else is around campus early on in training camp, so I don't really see purpose of "getting away". What would be the purpose of doing it in Lakeland or Bradenton? That's already the Tampa Bay area. Want to do it Ft. Myers or Ft. Lauderdale or somewhere like that, maybe.

This is all about team building.

My guess - Vero Beach.  Dodgertown.

And the winner is.... Vero Beach... Well according to GA's blog, that is where USF is trying to get. So far they are negotiations. Nice call CousinRicky.. Either a great hunch or you have some insider information.

The Vero sports complex sounds nice, I hope they do it!

That story would be exactly the same if it were written about Lakeland/Tigertown.

South Florida may hold preseason camp in Vero Beach

July 21st, 2010 by matt murschel

Officials at South Florida are in negotiations to hold preseason camp at the Vero Beach Sports Village, a site formerly known as Dodgertown.

The complex has been largely unused since the Dodgers moved their spring training to Arizona in 2008. With 90 villas for student-athletes and coaches, the facility would have enough room to house the team but the initial concern could be over the cost to USF.

According to the St. Petersburg Times, USF assistant athletic director Chris Freet confirmed the school has been in talks with officials but declined to say more.

The Bulls are scheduled to open their first fall practice under new head coach Skip Holtz in Tampa on Aug. 6. It would be the first time that USF has held practice away from campus.

Ding, ding, ding.  I had heard from a friend involved with Minor League Baseball.  But the story didn't break and didn't want to be the one to break it before it was announced.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
