Did we have talent or was it just a pipe dream?

(no pun intended with the use of 'pipe')

Somewhere along the line I really, really Bullieved that Bulls basketball was on the rise again and the Big Dance was just around the corner... I think it was right around the time we all Bullieved Shea Cotton was coming to USF...

Little Timmy: There's no Santa!

You've got to wonder when only 1 USF player is in the NBA...

Insomnia brought me to look at the recrent roster since B.B. and Altron. Conclusion: We just never had enough talent for the Dance.

...not to mention our guys had personal problems which kept them from being on the team or playing as a team...

Interstingly enough (sadly enough), Yusuf Baker is sitting on the pine at Tulsa;Sam Barber is playing Juco ball after getting hurt last year; Sheldon Franklin is not playing; Danny Oglesby is sitting out a transfer year, and Kelvin Brown got busted for theft and drugs last year and was kicked off the Murray State team -he's out of basketball (and may be in a jumpsuit).

------------

It's all on your shoulders, Coach Mac! Make us BULLIEVE AGAIN ---and deliver the goods!

It's like I said back then, we didn't have the horses to go dancing, at least not as an at-large out of CUSA. You need to have more than two legit threats, especially in a system like we had which placed more of a premium on individual talent.

The present coach seems to place less of a premium on individual talent, but it's a moot point because the talent level he's bringing in is less than what we had 3 years ago. I don't care about GPA!

(did I just say that?)

We had the horses during BBs & Jackson's senior yr.  Reggie's leg, selfish play, selfish offcourt antics and questionable coaching derailed the trip to the big dance.  :(

Dec 20, 2001 South Florida (7-1) vs. #14 Syracuse (9-2).

Seth just dreamed too big: We had no business playing Syracuse -in New York!

                                    1ST 2ND     TOTAL

                                      --- ---     -----

        SOUTH FLORIDA       22  46       68

        SYRACUSE (14)         40  40       80    FINAL

IMO, this was the best squad on paper we had had under Seth and they got slaughtered!

Waldon, Baxter, G Brittian, Mcdonald, Kohn, Bryant, Swift, Jackson, Morris, Leather, Brown and Bernard.

You can read about it: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/scores101/101354/101354321.htm#RECAPS

and just think, we were one of the final 2 schools on Amarie Stadaumire's list before he committed to Memphis and and then jumped ship to the NBA to become one of the best players in the game today.

Uh... you do realize that we'll be playing Syracuse, and 15 other games just like it, every year from now on, right?

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
