What is the point of ultimate frisbee?  I don't know the rules or anything.

It's a cross between football, soccer, and polo, using a disc of course, instead of a ball. There are two teams of 7 that pass the disc back and forth after its "pulled" (essentially a kick-off), but you can only pivot around on one foot when you're holding the disc. The object is to pass the disc to a teammate standing in the end-zone, resulting in a point. If the disc hits the ground or is intercepted during a possession, its an immediate turnover.

A very fun sport and very physically demanding, but it can also be low impact and easy to play for younger or even older players. Some of the better ultimate players I've played with have been guys over 50 who can throw and catch a disc expertly, and who know the game well. On the other hand, some of the younger collegiate players I've been on the field with would rival many NCAA athletes in skill and conditioning.

Haters say what they will, but its not a sport for stoners or dogs. Watch a competitive college team play before you bash it. You'll be impressed if you've never seen it.

Main rules:

Advance up the field by throwing the disc

Can't run with it, have to pivot like basketball once you catch it

It's a turnover whenever the disc hits the ground or goes out-of-bounds, or if a thrower holds the disc to a ten-count

Stay 1 meter back when defending against a throw

Non-contact sport, you can slap at the disc, but don't touch the other players

Score by throwing for a touchdown

Loser walks the field

Run around in circles coming off picks from other players until someone throws you the frisbee. Stop as soon as you catch it. Throw it to someone else. Run around in circles some more. WOOOOO!!!

Also, the word frisbee seems to be frowned upon. They only call it Ultimate and call the frisbee a disk.

Is anyone here a part of the club teams or intramural Ultimate (frisbee) teams at USF? I'm going to be a freshman next year, and want to play. At best I would make C team (if there is even a C team...hah), so I was thinking more of intramural.

Are the people who play ridiculously talented, or terrible, or in between? I've been playing for about a year now, and I'm not really in shape, but I can still throw and catch well. So I'm basically asking if the intensity level is super high or if it's really chill and laid back.

I had to comment on this one........Dude when you get to college, Go buy a keg.....Drop it at a pool or inside your dormroom and see what you can take home for the night. Engage in activities that only someone like Ben Rothlesberger would engage in. Ultimate Fisbee should NOT be on your mind. If you still find yourself thinking about Ultimate Frisbee, you got bigger problems......Two words Bro-R.A.P.E!
