there was a book written in the late 90's, I believe, concerning the number of penalties and whether they correlate with winning. It was based on one season. The author determined there was no correlation between wins and penalties.

Further study revealed that offensive false starts are the penalty most correlated with winning/losing. The higher the number of offensive false starts the less likely you are to win. No other penalties made a statistical difference.

I guess I should write a book to disprove his myth, or opinion.

Look at the Oakland Raiders.  When they were loaded with talent they won, when they weren't they lost.  Still at the time the most penalized team in the NFL.

it's a statistical study and I believe he came to the same conclusion as you.

Winning is not correlated with the number of or total  yardage of penalties.

there is a correlation with false start penalties however.

I would rather pry away a four star recruit with a 2,8 GPA from FL or FSU then a two star recruit with a 4.0 GPA who received offers from Vanderbilt or Duke. I'm not talking about the safety we just received a commitment from since he is quality both on the field and in the classroom. I'm just speaking in general terms here.

I agree. As soon as I saw the player was offered by Vandy my first thought wasn't that he must be smart, it was that he could be mediocre.

Overall, I've been underwhelmed with the recruits Skip has gotten us so far. It's to be expected though.
