I can confirm that Kansas, Kansas State, MO. and Iowa State are starting talks with The Big East.A 12 team FB Conf & a 20 BB cinf.

It's nice to be talking to them but im still uneasy about the big 10.  I just hope ND sings on the dotted line and makes thing thing a bit more simple.

Marinatto is horse trading with Delaney.  We hand the Big10 Notre Dame, Big10 agrees to let us live.

Glad to see the Big East be proactive.

You have to think, it a better alternative than joining up with the MWC schools and having to wait to requalify for an AQ.

They may not make the money they did in the Big 12 but it wouldn't be a huge step down.

I still think we lose Rutgers to the Big Ten and Mizzou will also probably see an invite.

However, tossing that aside for a minute.

The football conference could be divided into:

West

Kansas

KSU

ISU

Mizzou/If Mizzou leaves replace with Memphis

Louisville

Cincinnati

East

UConn

USF

West Virginia

Syracuse

Pitt

Rutger/UCF or ECU if Rutgers leaves

Travelwise that really isn't that bad. The basketball conference would be sick but could you make more money on your TV deals with the four new teams?

Well Seton Hall is an original (1979) Big East member so I doubt you would see that....plus they do help with the NY market.

I think if you seriously want to see about adding KSU, Kansas and ISU, you need Depaul, Marquette and ND in there to make the travel seem doable.

You could even break the basketball teams in to 2 divisions or at least schedule in such a way that travel is doable.

You figure for Kansas, KSU, ISU & Mizzou, the schools that would not seem TOO far would be ND, Marquette, Depaul, Cincy, and Louisville...that's 9 schools. Probably would stick USF with those guys because they figure we are going to fly far regardless if it is Northeast or Northwest.

Hypothetical question.

Let's say some variation of this happens. The Big East is proactive and goes after Kansas and the like. Goes to 12 football schools.

The SEC and ACC sit tight for a season or 2.

Then the SEC expands and takes 4 ACC schools.

What would happen then? You could see the ACC expanding by 8, I would assume all from the Big East.

What would become of those 4 leftover teams?

I would doubt that the ACC would take these Western teams, i.e. Kansas, KSU, ect. Would there be any scenario where you could see USF being left out? I don't see it but if we somehow got left out.....well that would blow as an ISU fan would say.

Kansas State officials weigh conference options

The Wildcats publically hold out hope that the Big 12 will survive, but wonder what alternatives might exist.

...The Big East and Mountain West conferences could also be possibilities, but both are currently considered long shots, two sources close to the department said.

(Kansas State President)Schulz has said he is adamantly against making K-State's non-revenue teams travel long distances on a regular basis. That would occur in the Big East. And multiple sources said K-State would only consider joining a conference outside the BCS once all other options have been ruled out. The Mountain West currently lacks automatic qualifier status with the BCS.
