I think Texas is much more likely to end up in the Big 10 than out west.  Would GaTech leave for the SEC?  Would the SEC invite Miami?  USF is probably seen as much less a threat to the Gators than Miami or FSU, at least up in Gainesville.

I say USF ends up in the SEC.

Go Bulls!

You are nuts on most of this.

Texas will not be in the Big 10 because the Big 10 won't want to take A&M and Tech.  That will be the requirement from the State of Texas - UT will be forbidden from accepting the invitation unless the other TWO are also invited.  This is the same for the SEC.

No, Texas will EITHER remain in the Big 12 - or, more likely, join the Pac 10 as rumored.

Second, USF will never get an SEC invitation.  The SEC won't want four Florida teams - so you can expect Florida State and MAYBE Miami to get invitations before anyone considers USF. (and USF would be invited before UCF is even considered).

Conference expansion has very little to do with "threats" -- heck, the SEC would probably prefer the bigger threat.  They want good programs in all sports so they can be called the best conference top to bottom.

Georgia Tech would trip over themselves to accept a bid to the SEC.  UGa may even prefer it, because their annual game becomes a conference game, freeing up a non-conference slot they could fill with a home game every year.

We can assume Florida State and Clemson would be the second and third invitation to the SEC.

That leaves a fourth for the SEC to get to sixteen --

* Miami: I don't think Miami gets the invite; three teams in Florida would be too many AND the UM facilities are not on par with other SEC teams.

* UVa & VT: The Virginia politicians would step in and force them to stay together. It's why VT is part of the ACC instead of Syracuse.

* UNC, Duke, NC State, Wake: Duke is private, so I could see the SEC wanting them for basketball - but UNC and NC State could have issues with their politicians.  Wake is too small to make the move.

* Maryland: Probably heading to the Big 10, but could be a dark horse for the SEC.

* Boston College: Too far NE to be part of the SE conference.

* West Virginia: A potential surprise selection, but doesn't really add much to the SEC.

* USF: Same issues as Miami, with the added burden of less prestige and less history.

* Louisville: Another potential surprise, might need some lobbying from Kentucky.

I think the big 10 would be willing to take A&M to get texas, but not tech.  That is what is holding that situation up IMO.

Here's a GREAT article about Texas -- and it says, actually, that Texas and Texas Tech have to be considered together...

Yep that is why texas will probably go to the PAC 10, because they are willing to invite both those schools.

No way in hell UCF is taken over PITT or UCONN.

I agree atlanta bull.  plus the sec would probably take GT and FSU which would open the door for all Big East schools to merge with the acc schools.  The SEC won't sit still if the pac and big 10 go to 16 teams.  They may not go to 16 teams, but they will add a couple of big time schools.  FSU has been talked about in the sec ranks for some time.  GT would solidify the atlanta and georgia market.  Espn would definitely be willing to renegotiate if they added these two schools.

Well, as long as we're posting fantasies, here's mine. 4 Super Conferences (Big Atlantic, Big Southern, Big Central, Big Pacific). Each conference Has an Upper Ladder (Big) and a Lower Ladder (Lil). Think British soccer here. Each Ladder has 2 Divisions (E/W or N/S). So the 120 current D1 teams break down like this, with easy expansion room for 8 more.

Use the existing Bowl Games for a 16-team playoff, see the attachment to see how the all-auto-bid bracket works (it's allll the way down to the bottom of the post). The only way to get into the playoffs is to win your division, so ALL teams must now be part of one of the conferences (and so I have ND going to the Big 10).

Every year, the last place team in the Big division gets relegated to the Lils, and the first place team in the Lil division gets promoted to the Bigs. This keeps all the Big teams fighting hard to stay out of last place. Every game becomes more meaningful now.

I don't get it.

Why would all these schools leave the Big XII?

Didn't the Big XII make more money than the Pac 10?

Why can't it all just stay the same?

Needs one more team for 16....

CUSA and MAC virtually the same with a few additions to bring it up to 16 each. Pittsburg and UCONN and perhaps a few up and comers in FCS.

Do you honestly believe that Pitt AND UConn would be dropped and replaced with UCF in an 8 team conference?

I understand school loyalty, but at least think of something semi-realistic!

the pac 10 is starting its own network.  They expect to make 20 million each with the 6 schools.
