in ital size isn't as important as usability. another reason I support a dome is because they can sell a lot more tickets around for concerts, wrestling, etc.

and if it's designed for expandability from the beginning, in ital size becomes much less important

That's what the sundome is for.  A dome would be horrific for a football stadium.  just ask Minnesota Gopher fan.

People, we're drawing 50k with $100 season tickets and $10 specials.

The goal would be to maximize revenue. Increase booster contributions. Etc.

All we'd need (or want) is a 50k seat stadium. We COULD draw more but really it's not a huge money maker for us now.

Look at Minnesota, they went down in size.

USF will not build a 50k stadium... they could maximize revenue in Raymond James by increasing donation levels (and they are). I'm surprised the south endzone is still donation-free.

The only way to maximize by downsizing is removing everyone's grandfathered rights. There are a large number people who have great seats for only a $100 annual donation because they started from the very beginning. If they keep their grandfathered status, a smaller stadium would likely mean LESS money and fewer season ticket holders.

I'm sure no decisions have been made either way - heck, Judy Genshaft and Doug Woolard may not be at USF by the time USF starts to build a stadium - but I would expect any on campus stadium to be at lest 70,000 seats. Especially with 12,000 (if not more) set aside for students.

so, no domes for football in florida.  just not right.

besides, hard to expand a dome and it would cost more $$$ from the start.

I'd fully expect the granfathered rights to be dropped if we move into an OCS.

Actually we've drawn 60K like 6 or 7 times.  In 07 against WVU, UCF, with UL and UC being close, around 58K.  08 had at least Kansas and probably another one that i am forgetting.  09 had miami, wvu, and UC.  Those are just off the top of my head.

4 times the 60,000 mark was hit

WVU and UCF in 2007

UC and Miami in 2009

Kansas barely had the West side upper level with any seats in there.

There still has to be consistency of hitting that mark before you build a stadium of that size.

OK so I rounded up on those other ones.  The Kansas UL and UC games all had attendance in the upper 50s close to 60.  Point is that there have been at least 7 games with 60 or very nearly 60K.

I still you need to have that total for every home game during a season before you go and build an OCS of a similar size.

They need the financing before they start locking up contracts.  A state of the art stadium would probably cost 250 to 300 million to build a 70 - 75k stadium.  It might cost even more to purchase the land unless they can get most of it donated.  I don't know where they would put a stadium on campus unless they bought university mall and tore it down.

How about here:

(This is Papa Johns Stadium - colored green).

What i find funny/ironic is that in USF's first ever "Master Plan" (when the actual University was still in it's initial concept stage,) that was the exact location of where they planned a football stadium to be constructed.

Pros and Cons

Pros of an On-CS:

Alumni come back on campus for games

Students get to tailgate in the residence halls

More Student turnout

No Drive

Post game celebrations on Campus

Game day festivities

You get to put up plaques, statues, and retire jersey numbers (tradition)

Cons of an On-CS:

Less chairbacks

Less capacity (temporary)

Pros of an Off-CS:

Chairbacks

Larger capacity (temporary)

Professional stadium

Cons of an Off-CS:

Drive (Some students don't have cars)

Lets be honest, its doesn't feel like OUR stadium

Lack of tradition

Pirate ship

Lack of GREEN!

On-CS > Off-CS

I think the only area that may see that is the student section.

Our fans are used to the chairback seating, so it would be smart not to take that away from them.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
