He was the third leading receiver on his team this year.  They only threw for 1600 yards total and the leading receiver only had 428 yards.

SCBulls, did you mean to say Defensive Back? If this guy played some Defensive End I look forward to him crushing some DB on run-blocks. Looks like a solid pick-up with some quicks....hopefully he doesn't have stone hands.

Cape WR Taurus Johnson has impact on defense

Senior returns interception for TD in win

By Chris Umpierre

cumpierre@news-press.com

With his defensive ends struggling, Cape Coral High football coach Nick Gasparato approached WR Taurus Johnson with a question two weeks ago.

Would Johnson, arguably Southwest Florida's best wide receiver, play defensive end, too?

The senior's eyes got big.

"I can come off the ball and hit some people?" Johnson asked Gasparato. "Sure."

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Johnson has hit a lot of people in his first two weeks at the position. Johnson recorded several tackles and returned an interception for a touchdown in Cape Coral's 23-9 victory against Lehigh on Thursday.

Johnson, who runs a 4.4-second 40-yard dash and bench-presses 380 pounds, was a significant reason why the Seahawks held the Lightning to just 112 yards of offense.

"Taurus is an impact player," Gasparato said. "I just wanted him to have more of an impact in games. The first week we put him there he saved three touchdowns against Gulf Coast. He's been incredible."

Johnson's interception against Lehigh came with less than a minute left in the first half. He dropped back and caught a pass intended for a Lightning running back and returned it 35 yards. The score gave Cape Coral a 13-0 halftime lead.

"That play turned around the whole game for us," Gasparato said.

So why did Johnson drop back?

"The Lehigh quarterback tapped the side of his pads," Johnson said. "That's their audible for the back-side post."

Johnson has received scholarship offers from Florida, Auburn, South Florida, Clemson, Florida State, Iowa, Georgia and Minnesota. He said he would be willing to play defense in college.

"I'll play anywhere they want me to. It's about the team. It's not about the player," said Johnson, who has been selected to play in the 2005 U.S. Army All-American Bowl in January in San Antonio. The game annually features the nation's best 78 prep players.

It will also be nice to have another physical WR like Huey
