if we are left out of expansion... it would literally crush our sports program.

no casual fans want to go see USF vs CUSA teams (cept UCF)...

it will just destroy mostly all of what we ahve built...

no way genshaft/woolard let us fail. If they do they are out of jobs.

I doubt USF has much say in the matter.

That said, I worry about a different paradigm shift. What if it doesn't matter if you are in a BCS conference. What if it just boils down to "Are you in the Big Ten or SEC"? I mean if each of these athletic departments is pulling in $20+ plus million a year and Pac-10, Big 12, ACC, Big East and MWC schools are all getting less than $10 million each year (Very rough estimating but I think you get my point).

How long can that go on before you start to see really large gaps in the differences between conferences? I know donors already create huge gaps but what if the athletic department actually produces double, triple or more revenue than other schools?

What happens to coaches salaries and recruiting when Purdue and Indiana can spend more than Notre Dame.....or their facilities are Ritz Carlton-ish compared to Notre Dame? What happens when Ohio State flies in nothing but 5 star recruits in on Leer Jets and they stock their training table with lobster and Kobe beef?

We are already there to some degree but when the big schools like USC, Texas and Notre Dame can't compete anymore....then what happens?

Why are some on here immediately discounting this report? It doesn't matter who told Peter King what. The story was reported on by a local (ND) TV news channel. Is this channel any less believable than BNC, ABC, CBS, Fox here in Tampa? Yes, I know they're using the dreaded "source" and we all know that the "source" can never be real. or trusted. If possible, we can't be left out "in the cold". But, then again like BBoC said, will it really matter if UI and Purdue etc... can out spend anyone outside of the Big Ten and SEC. 4 super conferences, going to ruin college football. Some people can't stand prosperity.

We all know that in our society money speaks MUCH LOUDER than words, and covers actions.

Get more money or get left behind.

The NCAA stands to profit from all of this, followed by the schools and conferences combined. So if one of the conferences don't see U$F as a monetary contributor to their agenda, we get left behind.

Because the Big 10 is going to expand by 5 and not take ND?

In speaking with a non-football coach last night at the dinner, I came away feeling a bit better about things.  I didn't ask why he felt the way he did, but he said that USF will be just fine if some BE teams get swallowed up.  No sense losing sleep over this.  I trust that Judy and Doug will get something done.

Odds are, USF will be fine.  A good TV market and getting 50,000 football fans to each game.  That makes USF more attractive than a lot of other schools, like Louisville.

I'm leaning towards the scenario that the Big 10 adds about five schools.  The SEC and/or the ACC will then respond by getting to 16 themselves.  You'd have to think USF would be a strong candidate when that happens.  As much as we defend the Big East, I doubt you'd find many of us complaining if we end up in the SEC.

USF will be fine, Judy Gensheft serves on the executive committee and board for the Big East Athletic

Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
