He was always overrated.

Boosted his stats against the first couple of teams in '07 and then came back to earth in '08 and '09.

Hes actually gotten worse as time has gone by, stats don't lie.

Really? Do you know that some of the best DB's in the NFL don't get as many INT's as others? Why because they are shut down corners, teams don't throw their way. So, just because a guy doesn't have great stats doesn't mean he's not good. The NFL knows whether or not a player is good/great. In this case it looks like there is a knock on Selvie. Like others have said OLB, ala Lamar Woodley and Micheal Boulware.

Selvie will be drafted and I expect him to be on an NFL roster come September.

Many of his TFL's were from tackling RB's ... he was pretty good against the run.

Will be interesting who drafts him.

I think he makes a roster too.

Halfway through last season the hype went solely on JPP as our sack-hogging DE. Hence teams started to double-team him instead of Selvie, and Selvie still failed to deliver. Hell Selvie has a LOWLIGHTS video on Youtube. You always hear Selvie was double teamed and thats why his numbers dropped, but after a while you realize maybe that isnt the case. Maybe we just wanted a superstar in our team and Selvie filled that void for the first couple of games in '07 but not much after that.

We also tried to get waaaay too creative with him with twists, playing up, playing inside, both feet flat like a lb and other things. At some point it was too much and he needed to be back in a 3 point stance blowing by tackles like he used to. I wouldn't be upset if he went to my team in the 4th or 5th or so because of his motor and always staying after plays. He made a lot of tackles down field.

I think the ankle problems and possibly playing on it too soon caused him to lose his burst off the snap.  At one time he used to come off the ball like he was shot out of a cannon then after the ankle problems he never had that kind of burst again.  He did pad some stats against some 1aa's but he was also getting a ton of hurries and blowing plays up without making the tackle in 07 and 08.  If i can find it there was a stat that a draft site had that he was doubled 85 percent of the time against the pass in 08.

Had his running double teams and passing double teams mixed up.

Thank you.  His stats in 07 were not just because of crappy teams.  He played crappy teams every year.  The issue is he wasn't as fast as he was in 07, for whatever reason.  As Bull Dozer says above me, he used to come off the snap faster than anyone else in football.  He almost set the record for TFL in 07.  That's really good.

The question is what caused him to lose a step and is now only a 4.9 40.  He definitely wasn't that slow before.  He used to run guys down.  It's very strange if that's because of his ankle, but unless someone has another idea, I guess that's it.

Maybe losing Coach McCarney hurt a lot. If watch his highlights/lowlights his technic is changed. In 07 he use to kill them with his quick first step and drop the shoulder to get around the corner. In 09 he didn't get off the line quick and he started dancing with the linemen. Like how the late Gaines Adams use to do. If George can get with Coach Rod Marinelli of the Bears. He could benefit for having a great teacher like Coach Rod.
