Kelly could be a big headache for ND.  BK was active in politics in the past and is an outspoken Catholic that is pro-choice.  That's a problem, especially considering the massive backlash when they invited Obama to speak.  Hiring a coach that is public about this and Catholic?

What happens if they hire him and the local Bishop or the Cardinal deny him the sacraments? 

If Kelly didn't have the political history and was more mysterious on this subject then they could get away with it, but I guarantee you it will get drudged up numerous times if he gets hired.  It could be another O'Leary or worse for ND.

I could be wrong, but wouldn't the difference be that Kelly is up front about it and O'Leary actually lied on his resume? At least the guy is upfront about it.

It's not quite like lying about things on your resume.  It's an issue a lot of Catholics feel passionate about.  They protested Obama over it and could cause a ruckus with Kelly.  It could impact fundraising as I'd imagine some of ND's boosters and alums would be unhappy about hiring a vocally pro-choice coach.  If it had never come up then that's one thing, but Kelly still shows his political leanings and that can be a problem for ND.

We'll see.  I have a guess it'll blow up in their face down the line. 

And prominent boosters are staunchly pro-life politically and throw money towards it.  What happens if several million dollars are withdrawn when they announce Kelly?
