I think the biggest issue is we cant get the kind of size and strength we need here in Florida.  It is just in too short of supply.  So as others have said, especially for tackles/guards we need to expand recruiting.  Most of the BE use the game every other year in Tampa to showcase their program.  Why aren't we able to pull recruits from the northeast?

i heard leavitt say on his radio program this week that he has little to zero interest in recruiting outside of the state.

I wonder how much this has to do with the budget.  One would think that occasionally they would target a special player from out of state.

we don't need a huge recruiting budget. the fact is we have 17 of the top 100 rivals players right here in the state of florida.

hell 2 of those guys are from tampa catholic and 1 is an o-lineman. and another from hillsborough. there is a DT in new port richey.

13 of the top 150 o-linemen come from this state and that's just this year.

there are 50 4 stars or better in this state this year according to rivals.

there are 3 in the state of connecticut.

there are 0  in west virginia. (they don't even have a 3 star)

there are 3 in the state of NJ

there are 14 in ohio.

there are 0 in kentucky.

there is 1 in NY.

there are 10 in pennsylvania.

the 7 states our competitors are located in produce 31 4 star or better recruits. Florida alone produces 50.

that's why it's more expensive for them to recruit.

Both Purdue and Wake Forest have signed more florida top 100 players than USF this year.

Every major program in the country recruits all over the country - even if they only bring in a couple/few players. If I counted correctly in the incredibly quick scan of UF's roster - 36 players are from out-of-state?

But, again like other's have stated and with some exceptions, you're only going to be as good as the coaches teaching you.

USF has the power to recruit a few big names, but do not have the ability to recruit the stars who would have to sit out one or two years. You can convince a player to sit behind an upperclassmen for 2 or 3 years at FSU, Miami, or UF... but you just don't get that luxury here at USF.

We need credibility to really get going in recruiting, in order to take the team to next level, but USF has to achieve this while lacking depth.

So the real question is this: What comes first, the chicken or the egg?

while i agree somewhat, that doesn't explain why we get blown out by a team like rutgers 31-0.  don't tell me RU is a super power like UF.

we may not have the depth, but we lack the heart to even show up to games.  i didn't expect to win this game today, but i would have liked to see some kind of effort.

The problem is we lack depth, not like FCS teams that just do not have the number of players, but we lack enough seasoned players to make it through the season.  By the time we get to conference games we have injuries, and we do not have enough A players to fill the void.  Our line has been hurt and they were already young, this makes the underclassmen not only play when they should be on the sidelines, but they are playing out of position.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
