Agree with you Bulliever.  Maybe we did get experience meteoric success too early and now expectations are set way too high.  I just wish we showed the same fire for conference games that we do for big OOC games.

Competing in your conference is "way too high"?  That "expectation" has been mentioned by our beloved and sometimes despised coach since we entered the BE conference and given our competition this IS NOT a high expectation.  These might be expectations that are too high:

1.  Winning National Championship

2.  Going undefeated through entire season

3.  Winning the Conference Title year-in and year-out

4.  No defeats in bowl games

4.  Having numerous first round picks each year

5.  Having Heisman Trophy Winners

6.  Etc.

Competing for the BE Conference Title, not folding like a cheap lawn chair midseason, being competitive against the better BE foes, winning on the road, etc. is what successful teams do.  Do you want us to be successful or is participation enough?

Expecting us not to lose in conference is maybe too high an expectation.

Remember, many of you were out in force after the Cincy loss....one loss.

Still, fan expectations of the program's success this year in the Big East far overshot what the Big East coaches thought.  But it's not unusual for fans to start with an overwhelmingly unrealistic look at their own team.

Yeah, and that team was beatable that night.  We didn't play competitive football in the 2nd half and let a sawed-off Tim Teabag wannabe run like Sea Biscuit on us without adjustments.  Given the fact we have lost three against the usual suspects means that we are in year 3 of a typical midseason "swoon" (so says every reputable publication in town).  I'd give you the "one loss" soap box but since we have lost two since, you really shouldn't be climbing up on that rickety thing. ;)

Just stating history for those that hate to revisit it unless it's to their benefit.

i think most people EXPECT us to:

1.  Show up

2.  Play well

3.  Play Smart.

4.  Game plan well

5.  Compete for a Big East Championship

right now only #1 is happening routinely

No I think we do 1 thru 4 but just not on a consistent basis

Ya know I've been reading all this banter regarding expectations for the team;

How about expectations for the coaches?

1. Why are all the plays so predictable that all the teams know what to expect.  Where are the different looks on offense? Why the plain vanilla?  Haunts of Gregory still seem to be here.

2. Why is the offenseive line always breaking down? What measures are being taken to address that?  I see no improvement.

3. When something insn't working in a game why aren't any adjustments being made? SOS

4. There have been a crap load of penalties, that doesn't seem to be going away!

5. Why does our defense break down in the 4th qtr?  Dah...the offense can't stay on the field. The "D" is on the field for most of the game.  Mr. OC what are you doing to correct that?

Players have to play the game but somewhere the motivation has gone out the window and a good coach can pull that motivation out of the player.  Give me a team of motivated players, maybe not stars but capable with the proper coaching they can be a contender.  When you have the amount of talent this team does have along with good coaching I think the record would be a lot better now.  I agree that any given day a team can be beat but when history repeats itself you got to stop & look at what is working and what is not and correct it!

No offense, but have you been in a coma since last Friday?

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
