We rely way too much on one player with our current offensive scheme, the QB. If the qb is having a bad day, the team loses.  We need to change the offensive philosophy so we aren't dependent on one player.

In the long term, I think we'll switch to a pro-style offense similar to the one pitt and rutgers use. Or change the spread philosophy to something similar to cincy.

Unfortunately, I think a change in OC wont help

We will never see a pro set. The philosophy of the O is that of the head coach.

I shouldve elaborated more, but I think its gonna take a HC change to get the offense moving. Canales is our 3rd OC in 4 years, and its been a sporadic offense with each one.

The philosophy of the O is that of the head coach.

So that explains it. Leavitt is a "defensive" guy right? Our WRs seem to be making a lot of tackles as of late.

Dude,

If the O has been basically the same since the program started no matter who the OC is and the only constant is the HC, then whose offensive philosophy is it?

Yup and a guy like Rob Phenicie would be a great affordable option IMO.

You are absolutely right.  It is 100% CJL's baby.  And you know what, it's a pretty good system for exploiting mismatches.  But just like with any tactic in games / warfare / etc it can be easily countered.  That is why a team MUST be flexible and adapt to the opponent. That is also why execution is so important to football.

I agree with some of these posters.  We need fresh blood in the system if we're going to have more success on offense.
