Brahman, I agree the penalties were much improved.  I think the point of the original post was more along the lines of how many of our players talk incessantly, even when getting their a$$es kicked.

BB2000, It's not turncoat. The smack crap has got to go! We are the national leaders in smack talk! In order to talk smack, ya gotta back it up. We don't. Smack talk has to be left in the street, not on the fb field. The true mark of a good or great football player is his prowess on the field. The losers talk smack, cause that's all they bring, big talk and little action. This is where discipline and team control is left up to the coaches. Intensity is used to perform not put yourself on stage. When I played, if you did the shush sign, nodded your head while you skipped off the field, or made any gesture of look at me, look at me, you were suspended from the team. Actions like we have been seeing carries over in life. It is not positive, it is detrimental. Just look at the 2 incidents that happened this weekend. To condone such actions is assinine in my opinion, and it is something I personally don't want to see at USF!    The Reaper

USF has always done that since day one. I didnt see as much smack talk as we did in the previous games. Football is a violent sport, so you are going to see some players yacking it up at times. Watch any other game and you will see players doing the same thing. It is a mental part of the game. Some players are quiet while other players need that edge to get them on top of their game. As long as there are no penalties, then I dont mind that at all. This is college football. In the end, the players shook each others hands to show their sportsmanship. That is what it is all about.

Rebe,

You are never going to stop the smack talk. Show me a team that does not smack talk in football??? I was watching the Harvard vs Yale game and there was plenty of smack talk between the players. Also, tell me a time that USF ever got into a brawl with another team?? Never has happened with Leavitt at coach. You can say that Lou Holtz and Tommy Bowden are very poor at discipline now that they got into that brawl. And to think that Holtz is a coach that stresses discipline. Look, if you want a program that does not show any emotion then that is your call. I am happy with Leavitt and realise that USF would not being playing in 1A without his help.

bb2000 the trojans do not act like the bulls

and neither do most of the 1a teams

leavitt  did a great job getting us to last year but for the last 2 years he has fallen down on the job

if there is no improvement next year out with him and bring in a coach that can take us to the next level

with the talent in the state we should not be embarressed by team from ky and cinnci EVER

we didn't build a new facility to get beat by army

I would like to see the posturing reined in a little. Royal jawing after his big hit, when his team was down two touchdowns and about to be down by three, was pretty pathetic.

That's how some players keep focused and in the game. Doesn't matter if they're down by 2 td's or up by 2 td's.  And they really shouldn't change the way they play based on the score. Should be all out, all the time.

tb-i say trash talking takes away from their play and concentrating

they should stop talking after a play and run to the defensive huddle and prepare for the next play

Have you ever heard the miked up NFL players? Derrick Brooks is yapping all the time. He's pretty decent. Some players use the talk TO concentrate, some don't. This "smack talk" talk is as ludicrous as the "shirttail out" talk.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
