So Seth was #2 in total wins and #2 in winning pct.  (I don't count Gibson, only 25 games).  Not bad for a guy who brought this program into a very tough CUSA.  He has 19 less wins in 3 less seasons than Paschal.  From the way people speak of the guy in the community, you would have thought he was the worst coach we've ever had.

And if he hadn't made that "kids not growing up wanting to be Bull" dig and not illegally recruited, maybe there would be a better taste in some our mouths.

I might be more concerned about the unscrupulous recruiting activity on Seth's part...maybe...but I'm not, because MAC came in and gutted the team of talent, jettissoning the best players. Coach MAC created the situation we are in for other reasons, and no one recruit would change the position the team is in today. This is not intended as a dig on coach MAC, I am just looking at the reality of the situation.

Something to note here.  Seth did win a staggering 8 games in his first year but did turn it around with 17 in his second and back to .500 in his 3rd with 14 wins.  We went to the NIT in his fourth year.  I believe you have to give MAC his chance as well.  Since we will evidently have a tougher schedule come next year I don't have the same expectation record wise but by year 4 I do expect us to at least be competitive with the big boys and win our share with the lower half of the league.

Unlike others I am not bitter over Seth but I do feel it is good he moved on because the time was right.  I wish him well.  He may have not met the expectations he gave us but we were above or equal to .500 every year but his first.

I have very fond memories of the Lee Rose era.  SunDome was brand new and students had almost the entire first level - called the Rose Garden.  Consistently drew 6,000 - 7,000 I believe.  We kicked butt every year in the Florida Four tournaments against UF, FSU and Jacksonville.

Me too!  Those plus the early 90's when we went to the NCAA's & elite 8 in NIT, were the best years USF basketball has seen to date.

It was time for Seth to move on and I am not thrilled with the recruiting practices or comments. However, while he was here he gave his heart and soul to this program and truly wanted to grow it's national presence (and his own).  In many respects he succeeded.  In others, he failed.

I'm not concerned with what SG said, nor his recruiting activities.  I liked him and supported him while he was here, as most probably remember... i was one of his bigger defenders on here in all the Pro vs Anti seth debates.  But the new hiring, i feel, was a good one, and while Mac did create the situation (with players leaving and getting forced out), it was done out of necessity.  Seth and Mac are two different style coaches.  Seth did a decent (not great) job working with the loose cannons that he recruited.  Mac would not fare as well with that style of player... they don't fit his system.  Different styles require different players.  He could have tried to deal with the egomaniacs/potheads etc, but his "My way or the highway" approach is his style, and it isn't a bad style.  Yes, it means at first we have less talent on board, but the players that come into the system will show more respect for the system, and long term, should breed success.
