i hope we bring in a couple of guys that compete for the  position

aren't there 2 higher divisions in high school football

i would rather have a  top division qb

banks and pj had no real competition and they fizzled

Grothe will supply TOP competition ... and we'll have Denson (transfer from Auburn) ... Julmiste WILL be better and also Gachette will have a year under his belt.

Hill still may be coming also ...

BUT, I hope our offense moves more to the running game and take the "burden" off the QB position.

Let the talent dictate our offense . . .

Go BULLS !!!

Familiar opponent, same end for Gators

Lake Gibson eliminates Land O'Lakes, and the Weatherford family, for the second straight year.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LAND O'LAKES - Joe Weatherford's shot at Lake Gibson ended up just like his older brother's did and Drew Weatherford was there to see it.

Drew, the Florida State freshman out with an ankle injury, left Land O'Lakes as the county's lone 7,000-yard passer but lost his last high school game, 44-35 to Lake Gibson in last year's region final.

Sophomore Joe Weatherford passed for a career-high 191 yards to no avail Friday as the Gators lost to Lake Gibson 39-6 in the region quarterfinal.

"I remember they were extremely talented," Drew Weatherford said of the Braves. "They're good at what they do, running the ball and throwing the ball."

Lake Gibson quarterback Matt Grothe was the best at both. The 6-foot-1 senior, orally committed to South Florida, passed for 210 yards and ran for a game-high 132. He ran for three touchdowns and passed for two scores, 47- and 17-yarders to Bobby Taylor.

"USF's got themselves a good one there," Lake Gibson coach Keith DeMyer said. "He's a quality kid and he makes things happen on the football field."

Land O'Lakes (5-5) set school records with its third straight district title and eighth consecutive playoff berth, but the Gators are 0-4 against the Braves, including regular-season losses in 1987 and 1988.

"Tonight, we just came up against a team that was superior," Land O'Lakes coach John Benedetto said. "But our kids played hard. I'm not upset. I'm not embarrassed."

Added Land O'Lakes defensive coordinator Al Claggett, "That's the best team we've played since Melbourne Palm Bay (a 49-14 loss) in the regional finals of 2002."

Land O'Lakes dropped to 5-13 in the postseason and had not been shut out in the playoffs since a 33-0 loss to Belleview in 1998. For most of Friday's game, it appeared another shutout might be imminent, but the Gators got on the scoreboard with 5:26 left.

Caz Piurowski, a 6-7 tight end, capped an eight-play, 90-yard drive by outleaping two defenders in the right corner of the end zone on a 16-yard pass from Joe Weatherford. Develin Robinson set up the score a play earlier with a 41-yard sideline pass.

"I like passing," Joe Weatherford said.

Land O'Lakes trailed 33-0 at halftime and had a chance to swing momentum in its favor when Robinson returned the opening kickoff of the second half 51 yards to Lake Gibson's 45. But the Gators went three-and-out.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
