For everyone sceaming for Royal's head... football is an extremely emotional game. This isn't the first time Leavitt has had a shouting incident with a player (see Tchecoy Blount)... but what you have to remember... there is a line of respect which each player has with Leavitt. Royal's line may be different from other players, but it's because they are both firey, emotional individuals. Leavitt is the psych major here... if he didn't let Royal finish his outburst, he would've been useless the rest of the game. Leavitt even smacked Royal on his ass after the confrontation... basically saying you unloaded your emotions, now recompose yourself and get back on the field and make plays.

Leavitt might be one of the most competitive people on a field, game in and game out. That comes from being a nasty linebacker in college as well as the top baseball hitter in your conference. He wants nothing but to be the best and demands the same competitive spirit from his players. Leavitt IMO would take 105 Terrence Royals before he would take 105 D-Rube's. That's just Leavitt's type of player and the type of fire he loves to be surrounded by.

What stands out about Leavitt most, and as much as I have disliked his ass, I still have the utmost respect for his competitiveness, happened during the Loserville game. We were getting pounded, and you saw Leavitt still being a field general rallying his troops. He had more emotion left in him at that point then the players did. He makes you want to play hard regardless of whether or not you like him.

P.S.: Props to the line for the holes they made for Hall yesterday... Hall's cutting ability accounts for a ton of those yards, but he was already in the hole when he was making those cuts... nice game O-Line!

I was hoping Sheriif would weigh in on this. That was my thinking on the Royal thing but not having played at that level wasn't sure if I was correct in my thinking or not ...........

Also, the OL did good job of pass protection on those long balls, too ...

Good food for thought by Sheriff, but I still disagree.  Football is a game of CONTROLLED emotion and aggressiveness.  I'd rather have guys with fire too, but the apparent disrespect showed to the coach is not excusable because Royal is an emotional guy.  He should have been benched.

I agree with Terry on this one. I did not think Royal was disrespecting Leavitt as many believe.. I believe Leavitt just got in Royal's face for making another penalty and Royal was trying to plead his case. I was hardly compared to what Keyshawn did to Gruden or what Jeff George did to his coach.  Royal was benched for a few plays to cool off and I think Royal did not want to come out because he was too pissed at the call. Lets face it, Royal when out there and played hard for USF and his coach. That is the best respect that Royal can give to Leavitt IMO. Keyshaun would have just layed down.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
