I see your disagreement and raise you an opposing view.  While you're right, they others mentioned have received "icon" status.  Their situations are completely different.  I'm willing to give him time to get our "Big East" recruiting classes on the field and see how he deals with some of the problems we've had this year.

So am I..."I'm not saying now, you have to let JL work through this or at least prove that he can't."  for earlier post.

The situation with Gruden is different.  He didn't build to Bucs.  Tony Dungy and Rich McKay did.  JoePa is different also.  He's had years of big, losing seasons.

Dungy built the Bucs? I always have to laugh at this one. Gruden is always slighted for "winning with Dungy's team".  One, Dungy couldnt win with "Dungys team". Gruden did. And two, it wasnt really Dungy's team. For starters, Lynch, Sapp and Brooks were all drafted under Sam Wyche, not Dungy.  Not to mention that Gruden added McCardell, Joe J, Dilger and Pittman to the offense in '02.  It was hardly "Dungys Team".

Really?

The facts say otherwise:

4 losing seasons in 38 years isn't a bad record.  He has had problems lately - but we could attribute that to a number of factors - joining the Big Ten, the rise of other programs in the Northeast ... etc.

This whole thread is idiotic. If Johnny Peyton catches a pass in the fourth quarter, and Pat Julmiste puts a little more air under a tight-end screen in the first, we're all running Sugar Bowl scenarios. Instead we're trying to get **** Vermeil appointed head coach. Sheesh.

It'll be funny to see you all doing 180s next time USF wins a big game. Or just disappear altogether, for those of you who only come out after losses.

Dead thread but we were not talking about Vermeil, it was more about Spurrier.  But I think most folks want to see how JL handles this new situation and see how he attempts to fix the problems, but since you brought up Vermeil up he would be a good hire.  Maybe he can retire from the NFL and coach the Bulls his remaining days...I do have a problem with a team that has NO defense tho'

I forgot about the 2002 season.  Even so, he's on his way to 4 losing seasons out of the last 5.

How about these names:

Ronde Barber

Brian Kelly

Anthony McFarland

Keyshawn Johnson

Martin Gramatica

Dexter Jackson

Dwight Smith

and they (Dungy/McKay) kept Sapp, Lynch and Brooks.

That would be Dungy's DEFENSE (+ Gramatica & Leon) ........ and I wouldn't be surprised if Keyshawn addition was 100% endorsed by Tony. He's not his kind of person ..........
