Coach Mac did bring in one guy this year who is 6'10":

Jones, Solomon Jr.  F/C  6-10  220  Mount Dora, Fla./Mount Dora HS (Daytona Beach CC)

I think we need to fatten him up some!  ;D

I think Coach Mac is very aware that we need BIG men.

Here is what he had to say about Solomon:

“Solomon’s size and athleticism are really much-needed here,†said McCullum. “We need to add players along our front-line with the departure of Gerrick Morris (next season) and he will help to fill a void there. He has been well-coached  he played his first year for (USF assistant coach) Frank Burnell and right now he is being coached by Brad Underwood who was a long-time Division I assistant coach at Western Illinois. Any criteria with the recruitment of a junior college student-athlete is that they be able to step in and help immediately. His experience, size and skill level will certainly enable him to do that.â€Â

SBien,

Right on about Terrance....many big basketball schools knew about him, but his test score was not yet met.  There was that story about how he worked with an English tutor for about 3 months straight and got a 1100 or something on his last SAT attempt.

He only came to USF after Johnnie Selvie signed with UCONN.

John Calipari flew down on his private jet to see him....so people knew about Terrance.

The simple thing about Terrance wasn't just developement, but also just getting the chance to have the ball in his hands as much as he did in high school.  Once that happened, he produced.  Also, his shooting ability wasn't utilized by Seth and stuck him under the basket.  Clearly, he was never comfortable there.  Now, since he is stronger, he is a force inside and out.

He just needs to keep his emotions in check...by no means is he a bad kid.

2+2+2+2+2+1.....does not equal 7 (as in 7 footer, or 6'10 footer, heck I'll take a 6'9 footer at this juncture).  We've got enough frigging guards to protect Buckingham palace.  The BE is known for it's tough, physical play and we're creating a finesse team.  CRM continues to baffle me.

This ain't the MAC Mac.

I agree with you that we have enough guards to go around.  However, a guy that is this high of a recruit you can't pass on.  Also on the note of physical play did you read this guys stats. He is either 6-6 or 6-5 and somewheres around 250lbs.  At that size he won't get pushed around.  I haven't seen him in person but from the pics this guy is jacked.

I think all the 'guard' talk about Cann is just talk.  It's obvious that this kid will play the 3 or 4, wherever he goes.  Not a knock on him, but at 6-6, 240....you are Ron Artest type.  That doesn't mean he can't shoot the ball though.

For the future your guards are Collin Dennis and Motavious Waters.  The rest fill in from there.

This is an excellent pickup and should help grease the wheels for the program and also get our program some closer looks.

By the way, the Tribune article Thursday was a large one on the front page of the print edition.

Everyone talks about a 7fter, but I don't believe we want a project 7fter under the basket.  I still believe this staff will land a big man- PF type- in this class.  Land another big time PG, and this class is complete.  Between Jones, and Diarra we'll have the center position pretty well manned.  From all the internet reports it looks like we're going after some bigtime big men, 6-10 type, in the 2006 class.

Clearly Cann will never play guard, that knee tear alone will probably never give him the lateral mobility he'll need to challenge the smaller fast guards.  However, at 6-6 240lbs he gives us another big wing player that can shoot.

We now will enter the BE with three solid wing players in Prek, Buckley and Cann- all three stand about 6-6 and can shoot lights out from the outside.  That's going to create serious mismatch problems for opponents, and probably alleviate some of the pressure outside for the guards.  Give me a team that has talent, and five guys that can shoot (something we never had under Seth, and this isn't knocking Seth) and I'll show you a team, with Coach Mac as coach, that can play respectable basketball and become middle of the pack type team in the BE- which should be good enough for annual post-season play.
