remember one week to the next is always different

last yr we looked like crap against elon then beat auburn then later had a let down vs fau then crushed ucf and lost to rutgers

one thing this team still needs to do is not take anyone lightly and play in all phases of the game

special teams is the third part of the team and yesterday they sucked and nearly cost us a game

gave up 7 on the ko return missed 2 fgs and gave them the great field position on the last possession

Exactly.  After the TN Martin game I was psyched that this was going to be the year than we went in to every game looking to hang 50 and completely break the other teams will.  Someone mentioned in another thread that the coaching staff comes off the gas way to early.  I agree.  Opening drive of each half by USF was stellar and then we bogged down.  Play calling is consistently inconsistent.  No, I'm not a football coach. No, I don't think I could do better. No, I'm not paid to do it well.

After last nights game their are plenty of reasons to worry.  Bad Special teams, bad play calling, letting UCF play us close.  But I'm willing to give this week a pass for the following reasons.

1.  We play Kansas next.  It seems like the offense went through the motions once we were up by two touchdowns.  Maybe it was terrible play calling.  I am willing to say they may have been holding back pages of the playbook for next week.

2.  This was Orlando's Superbowl.  UCF had the crowd, the trampoline and 64 other reasons to get motivated to play like there's no tomorrow.  Because really, there is no tomorrow against us.

edit  3.  Almost Forgot.  Ford didn't touch the field.

Other note:  Special teams was horrible.  But I wonder if playing so many starters on Special Teams has backfired.  I'm seeing Tyrone McKenzie and the sort running down on return coverage.  Do they have the legs for it after starting the whole game?

we'll see.  obviously last night was not what we expected.  but I'm not ready to pour on the pessimism  like you.

If they didn't hold back for KU I would be worried.

I dont know if this has been covered on the board here yet, but why on earth did we try for the field goal when we still had 1 more time out with like 20 seconds left (not exactly sure how much time) in the 4th quarter?

This year with all the seniors i had hoped we would play consistantly well against every opponent...we blow away inferior teams Tn-Martin/UCF/fiu/cuse) and struggle when warranted (better talent or even talent with a great gameplan)

I believed that Coaching would be the difference between 8-4 or 12-0

the first game made me believe this was correct, the UCF game made think "sameold sameold" cardiac kids.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
