While pretty stingy for the most part this year, we only have 1 sack and 1 turnover through 2 games.  Is that a matter of just playing vanilla and just good enough to win these first two games?  Keep in mind that UCF's OL is the most experienced in all college football.  We really haven't blitzed much this year ( I only recall 1 blitz last night).

So, since we were coasting for the most part (except the last 3 minutes last night) and haven't had to do too much, have we been holding back for the Kansas game?  From what I understand Selvie will be up against a freshman.  Buie and whoever else is on the other side needs to come up big when he gets double teamed.

I'm a little surprised at the lack of takeaways so far.  Usually we are pretty good at that.

USF is ranked #1 in Total Defense at the moment.

I'll take that. LOL

late in the game the secondary looked like swiss cheese. also everytime they rolled greco out there was no one close to him. if we had trouble sacking greco, we will not get anywhere near reesing because he's more mobile. those areas need to be corrected quickly

Hmm.  I am very interested to see how Kansas will move the ball on this D.  UCF had no offense for 95% of the game and almost beat us.

they changed coverage to a more zone prevent style coverage. whenever they kept pressure on Greco he was lost. Once they dropped off he had time to look for open receivers. They should have kept on the pressure and UCF would have never scored offensively.

I don't know what to make of Reesing.  He has never played against a decent defense yet in 2 years.  So far this year the two teams he played against are ranked # 101 and #103.  The BEST he played against wasn't even in top 50% of the country.   Playing our defense will be his biggest test yet.   I think Greco is more mobile than he is a good passer.  I haven't paid too much attention yet, but from what I have heard so far about KU's offense is that is has been completely ineffective running the ball so far.

My feeling is that we have doing what it takes to win the games and haven't done much more than that because it hasn't been required.  Like Mama Bull said, #1 in overall defense ain't too bad.

exactly.

which is a testament to poor coaching and defensive playcalling rather than the talent we have back there.

we have two upperclassmen with game experience at corner, a Thorpe watchlister at FS, a senior SS and plenty of experience to back up both in Verpaele and Gachette.

no reason our secondary shouldn't be locking offenses down.

Let me put it this way.  Tyler Roberts is NOT Mike Jenkins.  How many times were UCF receivers running behind our D-backs and Greco missed them?  At least 4 that I remember.  On Friday night Reesing will not be overthrowing or underthrowing.  It could be ugly.

It could be if we don't get pressure on him.  It seems like we still have some decent run protection but the passing will get a real test on Friday.  It looks like Kansas will have a chance to easily move it on us so we better be able to run the ball for the love of god.
