Thanks for starting the thread Smazza.  You're right, O'Leary was outcoached tonight.  Was he giving up with 5 minutes left in the game and punting from the USF 45?  What a genius.

no it is not working in the red zone ...when the ball gets inside the 5 it should be money in the bank we get the TD.should be true in the red zone.

Red Zone:

USF Red-Zone Scores-Chances....... 3-4

I am a CJL fan, and not so much with Smazza, but I'd agree with Smazza on this one.  We got out coached the last 5 minutes of the game.

...were the coaches thinking when they decided to kick the field goal on 2nd down with 15 seconds and a timeout left?

Can some please make an agruement to rationalize this call for me?

Is it because...

The kicker is solid from 42 yards or more, but questionable from less than 42 yards?

The kicker prefers kicking from the left hashmark instead of from the middle of the field?

We didn't think we could complete another play within 14 seconds?

We were saving the timeout for Kansas?

We wanted to leave time on the clock for one last chance to kickoff the ball to #19?

I'm having trouble with this.

I haven't read any of Smazza's posts since game time, but I bet I'd have trouble disagreeing with them.

You have to tip your hat to UCF's effort.

This is actually one decision I agree with by the coaches.  I am a bit confused on if we actually had a timeout or not. Television originally said we used one, and then they said we didnt use one and it was an officials review.

If we did NOT have the timeout, which it appears we didnt, we kick the FG on second down because of there's a bad snap, we have 15 seconds to get back to the line and spike the ball (3rd down), and have another shot at the FG on 4th down.

This brings up another point: WASTED TIMEOUTS. We seem to always waste timeouts.  We wasted one in the first quarter (as we always do), and we wasted one in the fourth quarter on a KICKOFF!  In the chat room, when I brought the wasted timeout, I got a response "When else are we going to use it?" Well, question answered.

I didn't like it either, but what are you going to do?  Run a play and run the risk of not stopping the clock in time?  We didn't have any timeouts left at that point.  The TV said we did, but it was wrong.  We burned our last timeout on that 4 and inches at the 35.   If we make the kick, no way we kick it to Burnett.  I think it would have been a pooch kick to the 30 or so.

OK. That makes sense then.  I watched it at Beef's and we didn't have any audio for the game.  I saw 1 TO left on the TV screen, but if there weren't any, it is a reasonable call.

I'm pretty sure USF still had a timeout on 4th down, because the officials stopped the clock to measure and once they decided that Plancher hadn't picked up the first, they set the play clock back to 40 seconds. If USF had called a timeout the play clock would have only been set to 25 seconds.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
